Oil and oil warning light
When I first got my classic the oil pressure sender was leaking so I got a replacement one locally but now sometimes with a warm engine at idle I get the light flick on untill the throttle is blipped.
I'm thinking a) I have the wrong sensor (but it was an all asked 4x4 one)
b) I'm using the wrong grade of oil - am using gulf western 20w50 at the moment (cheap from work)
C) the oil pump is on its way out.
The engine does sound about tappets when it's cold....
It's an auto 3.5 Efi 87model
Read somewhere but can't remember where that some rrc had oil pump problems?
Anyone got any suggestions or ideas?
Thanks

There are a few variations on the oil pressure light sender - A/C or non, EFI or not - each have a slightly different threshold. If it's flickering on-at least it works. Time to find a oil pressure gauge to find out exactly what pressure is there. Then you can decide if a better oil, set of bearings or a new pump is required.

What pressure should it have?

The proper switch ( PRC7204) activates between 7-10 psi - yours should have the rating stamped on it. ( Or the manufactures website might say what it is)
Your vehicle is a quarter century old. (Unless it's has a rebuild). A set of bearings and a new oil pump might be a good idea in any case.
