Was out earliia today in the woods and put the central diff lock on as was quite muddy, once back on the normal road tried to take it off and the light is still on?
Either car is stuck onlock or sensor that does the light is stuck?

Were you able to move the lever back or is it stuck?

If it won't move, then it could be stuck due to wind up in the driveline. Jack a wheel off the ground and this should release this and you should be able to disengage it.

I put the handbrake on and give it a little bit of D and then R. That typically does it for me if it gets stuck.

Mind you, if you've driven home and its still locked in then it sounds like some different to just wind-up.

I try to find somewhere to do a couple of figure of eights (only on the dirt) when this happens. That usually does the trick

Centre diff lock on a classic..........isnt that the vacuum operated black knob ?
If vacuum operated, when the diaphram fails on the transfercase, it usually stays locked in with the indicator light showing that.
A new vacuum unit is fitted on the transfercase and all is well again.

Started up this morning, and light had gone out! Think it must of just got stuck due to it being hot as I was in it for so long?
When it was stuck I could move the lever in and out, was just the light stuck on.
    Thanks for the help guys!

It is a mechanical lever to the transfer case on the LT230. Not sure on the earlier 4 speed LT95 though...

i sometimes just have to give mine a bit of a hard brake and it generally pops out and turns the light off. swinging on the wheel does the trick too!
