    Valve stem seals

Hi guys just wanting some info on rover 8 valve stem seals.

I bought a VRS kit from karcraft and it came with 8 flat (rubber/fibre) washer thing - the only thing in the kit remotely liek va;ve stem seals. is this right

Iwas told there was seals in there but they don't look like any of the google image search pics for 'rover v8 valve stem seals)

there should be 16 valve stem seals... my recollection is that valve stem seals should be more like o-rings... could they be for the fuel injectors? Might be worth calling KarKraft and asking them to confirm the kit contents...

The early RRCs used umbrella seals on inlet only, but I have never seen "seals" like that.
If you are having the heads serviced , have the guides machined and fit proper teflon seals , which the later v8s had . You can put them only on inlet or both as the late 4.6 had.
It cuts down oil consumption a lot.

Early 3.5's and also P76 engines had no valve stem seals, and no provision for them. The washers splash away some of the oil running down the inlet valve stems. All stepped guides can use the later ERR1782 clip on seals that are blue in colour. If I build an engine for heavy service on LPG I leave off the exhaust seals, and only fit inlets, as this helps valve life. I have used Teflon seals once or twice but they leak too much oil IMHO. They are favoured for racers.

I can't remember where I got my last VRS kit (for a D1 3.9) from but it contained the blue clip on seals.

I also meant the blue seals with a spring around them, which I always have thought were called teflon seals.
Now I look the blue ones are Viton.

Get some fuel injection hose that is a neat slip fit over the valve stems. Cut it to lengths that concertina as the valve opens. Works a treat. Old car dealer trick for smoky Valiant Hemis that were notorious for oil burning from worn guides.

    G`day ,

if you range rover heads have HRC 2210 casting numbers then they should have the cup type blue seals mentioned and come from JA vin 1992 and later , KA MA vins with these type range rovers and with the P38 same seals through to the last of this type engine .

If it has ERC 0216 then the seals in the picture are the correct ones and would be for 1976 through 1992 , though some of the years had no seals , some used 4 seals and some used 8 seals per head .

If the heads are pre ERC 0216 which will mean they came from 1976 or ealier they used none or if they have factory twin springs on each valve and the smaller valve heads they use none .

    Peter .
