But none of the above applies, as the BW was only used from around 1990 onwards, as far as I know. Think 92/93 was start, but could be wrong.

Same silly idea used in the P38.

The BW auto (not transfer box) I was referring to is the three speed auto that was fitted to a gazillion aussie built cars, !970's, etc.

It was a seriously ugly conversion, and the whole transmission had to be moved back in the chassis by about 150mm to fit it, complete with non stock length driveshafts, etc.

The Ritters one was / is a work of art.

Thanks for all your comments guys, I think I'll give this one a miss after some thought, I'd prefer a manual. The 4 speed auto in the disco drives me nuts so I'd imagine that a 3 speeder will frustrate me even more :eek:

My apologies 350RRC... I mis ed the 'auto' bit... BW (transfer case) is sort of red rag to a bull with me.. "Rabidly hate.." would be putting it mildly... Just a bit of perceived luxury/laziness that ends up co$ting late Classics / P38s needless grief, IMHO.


Had a BW-35 in my Valiant, ran great after it was rebuilt around 120K

Its the Real McCoy.
Patrick Sutcliffe used to own it. AFAIR he bought it from the person who imported it , then it was sold to the current owner.

If you look at it through the eyes of a car dealer, you have a 31 year old car that has a trade-in value of its scrap or wrecking value plus the tyres and rego. If it is fit enough to get a safety certificate, has some rubber and reg., then a dealer would think it has a resale price of say $3,000.

Im 100% with Brian on this,
Add age and probable bad maintenance, Chassis rust or damage and modifications that will have been made over the course of various ownerships and the trade value on an old Rangie is quite low and I am constantly amazed at the prices asked for Rangies with murky or unknown provenance.

Add to this the likelyhood of the ignorant damaging these old girls by doing silly things like engaging the center diff lock on paved roads (Not such an uncommon occurrence) and using incorrect oils in gearboxes and transfer cases and id treat most 2nd hand Rangies with a high degree of suspicion and then price them accordingly at between $500 and $2500.00 or id find one a club or forum member has for sale and pay a bit more.
