    Sorry - What's it worth - Looking at a 1981 2dr

I've seen an ad for one that I'm probably going to look at, 2 dr, looks like it has the dealer fit auto and aircon, body looks okay in the photos, I've been told that there's only rust on the tailgate (suprise suprise!) It's probably been around the clock a few times.

What are classics of this era realistically worth and what are the best options for what to do with it. I'm currently thinking about a "restore to an original spec/look" project - swap the auto for manual and get the interior back up to scratch (which appears to be easier than getting seat parts for my D2a from looking at the web)

My current feeling is that 2 dr values are only going to go up for a good one ansd I don't want to get the feeling I've missed the boat?

Any advice appreciated, I really like the look of the 2dr and would have loved a 90's CSK if I was still in the UK.

    Cheers

Rich - it all depends on condition. It will cost you more to restore a poor one than it will cost to buy a top one.

A few years ago a guy in Qld was selling a totally restored 2 door for $27k! I called him up and he said he set the price based on what it cost him to rebuild - not including his time. It did not stay on Carsales for more than a couple of weeks so I guess he sold it (or maybe changed his mind????)

Really good unmodified 2 doors don't come up for sale much. I think you could pay $10k - $20k for a really good car. Some will say that's far too much and maybe they're right, but with so few around I'd guess that only 2 - 4 really good 2 doors come up each year (at most) - if you want to pay no more than say $5k, you may be waiting quite a while.

But if you are happy to start with a worn out but basically sound car it will cost much less - the entry price will be almost nothing compared with the restoration cost (IMHO)

Rust is going to be your main problem. Pay a lot of attention to the sills. See if you can lift the floor covering and probe around a bit. Check also the rear chassis crossmember where it bolts to the fuel tank as it is poorly designed and lets moisture and dirt/sand build up resulting in rust.

As Ghillie posted, you are not going to get a good example cheap and they rarely come up for sale, as they have usually been used and/or abused.

I am currently doing a rebuild on a 81 2 door and am seeing the costs mount up.

The main thing is make sure that it is structurally sound and complete. Driveline parts are cheap if you look around.

Is the trans Ritters C 4/9 or the BW one, ie jammed in the front of a whole LT 95 case?

The Borg Warner chain-driven VISCIOUS Coupled one... like the plague. Designed to fail... and takes the output shaft with it... only good if you specifically want one, and the VC has been changed ($700 from Ashcroft, UK) or you're prepared to have it done...

The VC fails (95%) in the locked state, stuffing front drive train & tyres... cure is removal of front prop shaft...

But none of the above applies, as the BW was only used from around 1990 onwards, as far as I know. Think 92/93 was start, but could be wrong.

Same silly idea used in the P38.

No prizes for guessing what I think of it...

A Range Rover Club NSW member currently has CSK number 11 for sale , at a price ( told by another club member) of around 17K or so.
It was one of the 120? made and imported in 1999. It looks a 3.9 manual 5 speed.

    Apparently Beautiful condition.
If you want contact details PM me.
I have no connection but it is in the Marque magazine.
That would have to be around the top price a RRC could get.
    Regards Philip A
I lust after it and if I had a lot more money than i have I would buy it.

    82 2 DOOR

gday buddy, i know where there is a 2 door for sale down at slacks creek. his name is mark and he is a mechanic at suspension shop next door too abs brakes on service rd near bus turnaround ( logan rd side) ., it is white with sunrasias( ugly wheels) but is in very good condition and it has a lot of work done too engine and suspension. looks very original. he wanted $3000 as is or$3300 with roadworthy. it would make great restoration or you could drive. give me a ring on 0439894593, i don't think you would be disappointed with it, it is very straight, and its a manual. take care. have a look it won't hurt....

Is it the two door CSK or the Australian market 4 door? There're currently two 2 door CSK's for sale in the UK at about $45k each!!!!!!
