83 Rangie 3.5 V8 won't fire when hot but srarts after cooled down...Please help

    Hello everyone!!

My name is Jeremy and i just bought my first Rangie 1983 Four Door.

I'm the second owner with 74,000km lol

    She's a Darlin..

When i bought here she was running very rough and the starter motor was US..

The previous owner handed me a set of carbs when i bought her...

This didnt make me feel good... Because they dont look like a 1 minute job to replace.

However i did notice that the ones on the engine were a good qaulity FACTORY side draft carby so i decided to leave them the hell alone and not touch them haha..

I replaced the starter motor with a Bosch.

I replaced the coil with a Bosch.

I the trouble shooted a bit more and found the vacum advance hose too be off the diaphram housing.

I fitted the hose and she started easy and came to life,

After that it was fine, with a smoooth running engine and all the power back.

However i took her for another drive today.

She got up to temp. I pulled over to talk to a mate on the side of the road. Went to start and she wouldn't fire. It would wind over fine but no fire.

Anyway i'm a mechanic and he was a sparky. We soon diagnosed it to be an ignition fault. I thought it might be a coil but we didn't have an test light,

So he towed me back to my workshop on the farm.

I then went to start diagnosing and it started.

    WHAT!

    I'm stumped haha

    Crazy bloody Rangies lol

I'm pretty sure the can be converted to Bosch BIM024 module and HEI coil just like the later ones.

when i had an 83 "in vogue" i fitted a later electronic ignition in place of the points distributor, purchased from a wrecker-electronic dizzy, coil and wire from ignition barrel to coil that dropped from 12 to 6 volts, car ran so much better after that,

    Okay then. THANKS!

Now this has an electronic ignition.

    Not sure on the make.

It looks like it has been fitted after factory..

Did they come out with Electronic ignition?

In Vogue, top model range rover in its day[and its day is long gone], head rests on back seats, arm rests all round, timber door capping and 727 slush box, i was very proud once...

Because it was in Vogue magazine. Later they dropped the "in" and just called it the Vogue, and then it just became the standard upmarket version. Mine's got all those extra bits and I plan to restore the trim because it's still pretty nice, compared to a modern plastic grey car.

Anyway, can you post a photo of the dizzy? And then all should be revealed.
At any given point in time, somewhere in the world someone is working on a Land-Rover.
