    Rear window fault

    Hi,

I have a 93 Vogue SE and earlier today attempted to lower both rear windows. They went about half way down and stopped. Now they will not go up or down. Tried the window isolating (child lock) switch in up and down positions and made no difference. Fuse ok, and sunroof (on same fuse) works.

Is there a relay somewhere, or could the isolating switch become stuck on?

    Any suggestions appreciated.

    Regards,
    John

Start with the window switches... Contact cleaner, or pull them apart if you dare...

Why bother opening them ? - they only go "halfway" down anyway... unlike the Mitsu... er, competition which go fully down.

I'm told that the Window Computer has an inherent weakness with some copper track(s) on the pcb. Don't know because of the above...

'95 Vogue SE with working EAS and Nice Clean Radiator.

Thanks Superquag. First time I have lowered them. Didn't know they only went half way down.

Strange thing is none of the rear window switches work - not the ones in the cluster nor the ones on each of the rear doors.

Just went out to have a fiddle with things, in the hope that something I moved/jiggled/dislodged had an effect. Before fiddling thought I would give them another try, and now they work, perfectly. Hope I haven't jinxed anything by saying that.

Then we may both have the same fault... mine work intermittantly from when I bought it. PO (previous owner) claimed it had "just started" doing that....

But seeing as I was used to a Jap 4WD that opened fully... the half-way or so of the RRC did'nt impress me at all. - Look at the size - or lack of it - of the door.

There is also the horrible-to-contemplate possibility that the window mechanism has come apart. The piece of metal supporting the glass is prone to rusting, about the same rate as your tailgate frame. - - Bit of a coincidence that both have died at the same time, though.

Found this on another site, - so we can enjoy the feeling of someone else suffering... The link mentioned worked for me. (Dry joint on the circuit board. Either DIY, or take the module to someone who can. Less than a minute to solder up the villains.

One day I'll have a look for the leak...where the smoke has escaped the wires.

The reason I needed to open the rear windows in the first place was because it seemed to be getting a bit hazy in the car. It must have been smoke from the window wires.

    windows

gday, i had the same problem down the coast last week. i turned the ignition off, and tried both windows at the same time..... they went up. I'm not going to put them down ever again!..... the relay is inside the centre console, i think it is the one towards rear. take care , good luck
