EAS Delay Timer Function?
In my 93 the EAS delay timer (white large relay under the drivers seat with AMR 1111 part number) gets quite warm even when the vehicle is sitting there doing nothing.
Does anyone know the function of this relay, just how long it delays before switching off and when it should be on and when off?
I need to know if it is indeed staying on and sucking power when it shouldn't or if this is normal.
I've had battery problems (battery so buggered it blows fuses on the charger) and currently have the interior apart so it's not in a state for me to know what is or isn't normal.
Then I'll be able to decide if modifying it to key-on or some other power source will give any benefits.
Can anyone help?

Yes, your relay may well be faulty, assuming it stays ON for longer than 20 or so seconds - after all doors are closed.
It is supposed to stay ON for about 20 seconds after shutting down and exiting (closing all doors) to allow a final self-levelling. Then it switches itself off and sits there...
The ECU wakes up every 6 hours and pokes the above in the coils... which turns it of for 20 seconds to have another round of self-levelling....
If you have power to the ECU and to the interior lights...and a door open, it may still be energised, waiting to begin its 20 second countdown which starts with the last door being closed...
My system is working ok, so I've no reason to take the relay's temperature.

Only 20 seconds?
I'll have another check. Right now I just installed a 5 pin headlight relay as a test and it's working fine.
Obviously it'll stop levelling when I turn off the key, but that's fine. If I have fat people or heavy stuff to unload then I'll leave the key on.
I found 15 second and 10 minute delay relays for sale on the net (ironically at the same place I just bought a steering lock from).
Now I need to find a lighting circuit with enough space to plug this oversize relay in and see how it works.
I did find reference to the P38 waking itself up every 6 hours. Do we know the classic does this also?

That is what it says in RAVE... Well, not expressed like that, but means the same. Every 6 hours.
If my Big White Relay dies... I'll replace it with an ordinary one. - Like you, I can live happily ever after with the system going off with the key.
