Yes you can change out the CV joint onto either shaft form.
The CV end of the half shaft has a female groove in it; which therein lies a roundish section snap ring. The inside of the CV joint has a similar groove which slides over the shaft and the snap ring locks it in place. You will see the two tangs of the captive snap ring sat in a pocket at the inner edge of the star shaped CV section if you get rid of the remaining grease
To remove the old CV joint clean out some of the old grease to observe the "star like" centre section. Place shaft assy in a vice and clamp firmly.
With a brass punch place it against the star shaped inner section, use a pair of snap ring pliers to pry it open and give it a firm whack with a hammer. An assistant helps as it is a three handed job. (ask the missus????)
This should drive the CV section up and over the the hidden round snap ring and it will fall off.
To reinstall or fit a new one, simply place the CV arrangement "square on" the shaft splines. You MUST use a plastic dead blow hammer for this job to protect the end /splines. Again a smart whack on the CV end shaft will place it locked on the half shaft.
Hope that helps & good luck with the mechanicing.
Once done you can pat yourself on the back and go to the pub and down a pint or two----But wash the grease off your mitts, the landlord might get upset with sticky lithium grease on the bar.
Cheers Dennis
