also the rear doors are gettign harder to open, i have replaced the handles so its not them.
but I haven't pulle dthe trims off yet - only a number of issues at once..
anyone had issues with the key lock opening but not locking the door.
I've narrowed down the problem to around the striker plate, there must be some 'slack' in the linkages in there as the rods from the lock itself have been replaced/fixed.
haven't had a chance to work on it as I got to pull the glass to get into it
hopefully this weekend cause the carport is full with my other car (half way through a engine swap (hopefully finished this weekend also) If the weather doesn't continue to be crappy

I've got similar problems with my 4-door and I'm just going to pull the trim off each door and fix whatever's wrong. I reckon it's got to be the various linkages and connections. So I've put it off until I get the chance to do each door as a sort of little rebuild, and I might put some sound deadener in while I'm at it.

The doors tend to get harder to open as the bends in all the linkages straighten out a bit so the linkages effectively get longer. Some have a screw adjustment and some just need a little tweak with pliers.
sorted why the key unlocks but doesn't lock. the tube on the striker the bar the runs from the key side to the lock side has cracked.
looks like I'll have to replace the whole stricker.
It seems to be a GM (general motors) product, anyone know a model number for a common car it would come out of.
Thanks for pointing that out. A quick search shows that other people have noticed this over the years, but there's no part number listed. Sigh.
