Your trans oil isnt the problem.
Its most likely your radiator is blocked, thermostat, or water pump.

When towing the ZF can get mighty hot, especially with trailer mass above 2 tonne. The viscous coupling also transfers additional heat into the box through the housings.

I have an engine oil cooler which I doubled the capacity and the next step is (was) to double the capacity of the OEM external cooler. Its a lot easier to keep fluid cooler than to get the temp down when its already hot.

IMHO a transssion cooler in the radiator adds extra heat to the engine and lowers the cooling capacity of the transmission element.

There are a lot of generic towing cooler kits out there for exactly this problem.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.
