89 3.5L flapper and gen 111 injectors, is it possible

    Hi all,
Question about fuel injectors. I've here good a lot of good things about Gen111 injectors but have found they are for the later engines where the injector pushes into the rail and not the 'tail' type injector like in mine.
I did read in another thread
    http://www.aulro.com/afvb/classic-ra...questions.html
    a comment from 'Langy'
Quote>CAREFULLY using a dremel remove the hardened rubber from around the metal collar of your old ones, and the collar comes off, revealing the barbed 'tail'.
Then you can use ordinary EFI hose to replace the 'tail'. (Re use the collar).
Measure the old pieces of rubber and cut replacements accordingly as the fuel rail needs to sit right. About a metre should cover everything from the metal in/out ends at the firewall and a hose cutter is very handy.<Quote

Can this be done with the Gen111's as well to fit them to a 3.5L?

My engine has been completely rebuilt, block machined so it's all square again, crank reground and balanced, bored .020', new pistons and rings, all new bearings including cam and internal bolts, plugs etc. It has 10 bolt 3.9L heads fitted and a 259A Wade cam (improves low down torque) and Rollermaster cam chain and sprockets. It also has a later larger bore exhaust and I probably will fit extractors if I find any that fit well without removing accessories from the engine bay.
The injectors in it are original with 223291km on the clock so they are tied anyway.

If the Gen111's won't work any suggestions as to what would be the best for this type of build?

I also heard a VN/VP fuel pump is a good replacement, is this true or is there something better?

Any other suggestions or comments greatly accepted as well

    Cheers in advance,
    Valguard

Seeing that nobody has answered I will tell you all I know about 3.5 options which is not much.
In practical terms it is not possible to easily mount Gen111injectors. I suppose you could buy injector bosses which are available at tuners and braze them to a 3.5 rail., but I still do not know whether the bottom mounts are the same or the injectors are the same length which is more important.

Someone posted quite a while ago that there was a Nissan injector that will fit, maybe from a 300ZX?
The VR fuel pump is identical to the 3.9 internal pump so if the 3.5 is a similar assembly it should be OK.
Really the old flapper units are getting so old now and the parts so expensive eg the thermal time switch, that you may be better off fitting a Megasquirt onto a 3.9 rail, with Gen111s,or fitting a complete 14CUX as you can use your fuel lines and pump which cuts down the cost a lot.

    Thanks PhilipA,
I've looked into the megasquirt idea and really like the idea of it being progammable.
I've been looking at a kit from Megasquirt for V8 engines - Complete Kits and have messaged them for more info.
It looks like all I need is a later manifold, fuel rail, GenIII injectors and the megasquirt kit.
I know it's not as simple as that but I think with every thing that's being done to the Rangie (I'm rebuilding the rest of the drive line as well) I should just bite the bullet and just replace the injection system altogether.
I'll post what info I get back from Megasquirt-V8 as to what is going to be involved.

    Cheers,
    Troy
