Lt230 into the home of a BW

I have been looking around a bit on the site have seen that its possible

Anyone in the know kind enough to help me with a list of problems I will have (surly it's not a drop out drop in)

I have a hoist for this Saturday coming and want to have it all ready, also getting my front swivels seal done

The other issue is that I really want it behind my manual 5 speed from my 88 diesel

    Cheers in advance

    have a look here-
BORG WARNER TRANSFER BOX FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS | For Land Rover Enthusiasts

    extracted from above link
    1. Can I replace Borg Warner transfer case with LT230 transfer case in RRC 3,9 V8 and ZF automatic tranny (1990 model) ?
If possible, does it fit straight in or need some changes or fittings or….?
      Regards,
      Kai

yes you can fit the LT230 straight on the autobox but pls note there are many different ratios, you want the 1.2 ratio whose serial number will start 28D,
note you will also have to change :
      front propshaft
      RH mount
      handbrake backplate
      linkages

    '95 Defender 130 Single Cab
    HS2.8 TGV Powered
    ------------
98% of all Land Rovers built are still on the road.
The other 2% made it home.

Cost difference between Britpart and Genuine seals: £2.04. Knowing that your brakes won't fail at any moment: Priceless.

It's a straightforward job, biggest pain is the change to the shifter surround in the console, I never did get around to finishing mine off. Re the handbrake backing plate, pretty sure I didn't need to swap them over, the hole pattern is slightly different, 3 of them line up but you have to re-drill the 4th. Rear propshaft is the same, front one is different, one of the mounting brackets is different, all the rest bolts up. They're heavy.

Yes this shouldn't be a probelm. If you use the parts from the 87 Rangie they should all bolt up and you're on the road again

Having the donor car at hand is ideal. Yes, all the propshaft flanges etc bolt straight up. Make sure you use new nyloc nuts for the propshafts, these nuts coming loose is a common problem, as people tend to re-use the old nuts. Is the 87 handbrake cable operated or linkage operated? If it's a linkage, getting hold of a cable operated handbrake makes life easier.

I belive it is cable going to start stripping it out tonight if my back lets me that is

    Thanks all for the reply's

About to get my 32" they are intransit to me as I type dont want to hurt the BW rather have it for a back up if I ever kill the more robust lt230, Which knowing me is bound to happen!

Vm bell is different then the V8

Vm starter is 2 x as big and any other Landy product !!! and clocked in different location by 2 inch's higher on the drivers side

Also the hi stall (smaller then stock converter) does not fit in that adapter on the back of the engine

And aswell the crank has different pattern spacing in the bolts and the flywheel and ring gear are incompatible

    Just for future use guy's

    Vm
