gday all, have just had the small hesitation problem this week pop up again. its doing it at idle now, but from 40 alms too 80klms an hour it runs fine. i popped in to land rover shop at acacia ridge on thursday and had a chat with the friendly bloke there. he has throttle position switches for $45,{ second hand i would think}, but he said don't waste money yet. i will check distributer for excessive play and vacuum on the side. its going to get a big service next weekend so i am going too go right over it. if i give the engine a full wash, is there anything i should avoid? cheers, mark

I'd be pulling the dizzy cap off and having a looksie at the state of the inside and of the rotor arm. Check the voltage at the TPS before you buy a new one, there's specs on what it should be on the forum somewhere I believe. If not its in the RAVE manual.

Pop a pic up btw.....mines. 93 lse too and it needs a friend!

I experienced this surge yesterday for the first time. To me, it felt like fuel starvation / advance-retard, but happened only under WOT and unfortunately because my tach doesn't read correctly an estimated 3000-4500rpm before it clears itself and smooths out.
I tried to repeat the scenario, and the second time it was the same behaviour but slightly 'less severe'. however, some time later (on return trip home about 45 mins later) there was a random misfire/lumpy idle for the shortest of durations.

Today I'm going to pull the cap & rotor and check it all out before moving onto other fuel system checks. Filters are new, so shouldn't be any problems there - but we have had an inordinate amount of heavy rain here and however remote, it *may* be possible the fuel tank has ingested some. Done a few creek crossings too, but don't consider any of them to have played a role in this, since those were over 2 weeks ago and the car has been fine in the interim.

will be interesting to find out if there are any ignition issues.
Might look at bee-utey's module relocation mod as well if I have enough spare time.

extensive use of the search function helps to find some good answers - but this thread is already in the 1st page of the classic section -

Anyone recognise this 1984 RR ignition system?

It's the link to another thread, but that thread is worth reading in its' own right, which is why I did not post the direct link to BeeUtey's own thread, but rather to his post in the other thread.

however if you don't like reading, just go here instead: Lucas ignition amplifier replacement by Bosch 024
