My flatmate bought a 04 Subaru from NSW a little while back - at a garage it passed its roadworthy OK but because of its age had to go to Dickson for an identity check. While there they also decided it another roadworthy and failed it because the tinting on the back window was too dark - drivers windows were OK. So after getting the tint changed where the installer said the Dickson machine was dodgy (later admitted by Dickson where they added an extra margin) the car was again given a roadworthy inspection at Dickson and passed. So three roadworthies in three days thus far.
Two weeks later my flatmate got a letter in the mail directing the car be taken to Dickson for another roadworthy inspection - on querying it they indicated they did a random check of recently inspected cars and when I indicated it had just been inspected twice by Dickson in the previous fortnight they were not interested. My flatmate said he could do it on a weekend as he was not going to take time off work during the week and they indicated no problem they would come to his workplace to do it - they came to the Parliamentary Triangle and did it in the car part - not really a roadworthy- just a cursory glance - wipers, lights etc.
I came to the conclusion was the whole process was just to stuff people around. 4 inspections in just over 2 weeks is ridiculous.

Canberra!
Love it or leave it!
I spent 8 winters in the ACT. Lived in Masson St Turner. It has its charms.
The ultra PC luvvies that infest the Public Service and especially the ACT Govt are not among them...
I took my SA registered W140 S-Class Mercedes over the Dickson pits for rego transfer. A
About $2,000 of unnecessary work later it was ready to be approved.
That's how they roll down Dickson way. The inner-norf brother!

Why do they need such a high standard? Canberra is a small small place :p
