Urgent Help needed, 4.6L in an 85 Model Range Rover Classic

    Hi Guys,

Helping a mate out here, he has purchased an 85 Carby Range Rover Classic from QLD (amazing condition with great mods), it has had a 4.6L engine block still running twin su carbies, goes amazing, was put in by Bruce Davis in the past, he went to get a blue slip in NSW and the guy turned him down, saying the engine numbers didnt match up and its a larger capacity engine.

The 4.6L is from 95 onwards, so surely you dont have to put EFI and ABS,cats and all that rubbish into the Classic to make it legal!!

Anyone got any contacts, he needs a blue slip, but maybe a understanding engineer

Or any suggestions on what you would do in this situation?

    Many thanks in advance!

when i had my late 89 rangie with the injected p76 we didnt tell anybody that it was a larger capacity engine and the rego stayed at 3.5, with a replacement engine number on the paper work, a 4.6 is easier to disguise than a p76 with inlet manifold spacers, sorry cant help more

    Thanks for that,

This is a blue slip rego, when you bring a car from interstate, so isnt that different?

The bloke sounds like he wants to be a PIA, the Rangie if I know the one was originally registerd in NSW with that engine fitted anyway so shouldn't be a problem.

Nice Rangie that one, know the bloke who owned it

Is it red? Think I know the car you're talking about, I commented on an FB post about it if it is that truck.

Over 15% capacity increase in NSW requires an engineer's report.

Most of the parts 4.6s did not have an engine number when they came to OZ so the seller would use the car's original engine number. Pity if the bloke then wanted to sell his old engine, but still probably cheaper than an engineer's report.

I have always been aware of this rule and it would be the first question I asked.
