    Inertia switch location

Sorry to repeat an old question but I am getting quite depressed trying to find the inertia switch in my 03/89 RR. I have searched the net, and my Haines manual, and this forum. I have looked under the left front passenger seat. I even got my wife to look, in case I was missing the obvious and it is NOT there. What does it look like? Haines shows a wee box with button on top. My TD5 disco one is relay sized and easy to find. I have also looked on the firewall, under every other seat, behind kick panels, etc. Does it even have an inertia switch?

Iw as going to say it's under the passenger seat in a 92 , but I have already said it.
It should be in the RH rear corner , just in front of the raised section of floor, and immediately next to a set of fuses that are used for electric seats in the snob models.
Sometimes "mechanics" or "auto electricians" remove them if they are faulty and don't replace them. They are there for a purpose. If you crash hard and rupture a fuel line you can be crispy fried unless you have one.

    G`day Bilbo ,

you and your wife are both right you can`t find something that`s not to be found .

The RR flapper system doesn`t use one , there was one fitted to the Rover cars that used almost the same system but not the RR .

Hot wire system uses them and if it can`t be located on them it`s just a matter of tracing the fuel pump wire back from the pump as it`s next in line .

Was there a need to locate it ?

    Still looking

Thanks for the more precise location. There are no wires or fuses under the passenger seat. If someone has removed them, they have done a very tidy job. Just to confirm: it is RHD. There are a couple of 8mm plastic blanking grommets in the floor at the right rear corner and one nearer the front. Although the plate says 03/89, the engine says made 1988. My Haines wiring diagram for 89, and the one in the vehicle hand book, do not list the inertia switch. The Haines 1990 wiring diagram does list it. The reason that I started looking for an inertia switch was that the wire to energise the fuel pump relay has no power and I wondered if this was due to the inertia switch.

The 3.5 flapper inertia switch is not really an inertia switch but a switch connected to the flapper which cuts the fuel pump if the flapper is at rest IE the engine is not going.
As the starter is engaged the flapper rises and enables the fuel pump, which has already been activated for 3 seconds or whatever by the timer relay.

The above applies to Federal Injection which is an earlier version of the flapper in a Rangies but I am pretty sure they work the same.

You can test by lifting the flapper with ignition on. The pump should start.
