3.5 Eli conversion and fairey od addition

I have just purchased a reasonable 3.5efi with sensors and ecu to go into my twin su 2 door. ( I will take it on the chin all those who ask why as I have asked myself) however it is done and I now I am working through the parts list to to the swap over. I believe I will be able to secure most of the emission sensors etc but worried I am missing something such as special fuel pump, return lines or Efi specific fuel tank. Has anyone converted a normally aspirated to fuel injection and any advice on pitfalls to watch out for? Now for the trickier question also have purchased a complete lt95 with fairey o/d again will take on chin why did I not go for lt77 or similar if I wanted the fifth gear again it is done so on from here. I have a reconditioned lt95 that I thought to put the od onto I have read many posts on oil starvation, some great modifications to increase oil reserves, breather lines etc could some one point me in the right direction of where I might find a step by step how to a) check the condition of the od parts prior to installing and b) what I should do to get the best longevity out of the unit. Any help would be appreciated cheers

I have done a carby to EFI conversion recently, and it is fairly straightforward. The easiest thing with the fuel system is to find an EFI tank and stick that and the EFI lines in.

As far as the LT95 and OD goes, I have just stuck an OD on my 101 and had no issues. I haven't done anything about the oil feed, I think you only need to do this if the seal between the TC and gearbox fails, then the oil from the OD ends up in the gearbox and starving the OD. Someone may be able to elaborate more on that.

    Cheers - Gav.

G'day mate . yeah i did a twin carby to EFI swap on my old 85' rangie .
I used an old car type rover vitesse 3.5 injection system. I used the std low pressure electric pump that was at the rear of the Rangie and then i added an inline high pressure pump up the front for the fuel injection , i think i put it over low on the LH inner guard where the steel fuel line came up the chassis - I was always going to add a surge tank but i ended up not needing one.
By memory i used the old fuel return hose (or maybe it was a breather i cant remember now) port on the tank (there was the old plastic return hose already there that went up near the brake booster) and I ran a new hi pressure rated hose from the other end of the fuel rail back into the tank.

I had the real early fuel injection system (without the hotwire airflow meter - it used a flap type thing) but the sensors were all straight forward to sort out . I also used a inertia switch from a gas system for the main power setup incase of an accident and as a save guard.

I ran it like that without a problem right up until i changed the 3.5 to a 4.4 P76 engine and the fuel injection wouldnt fit .
All the best with the fit up.
    Cheers

I had thought the existing tank might be a problem as I think the Efi tanks are pressurised. Have seen new ones for around 300 so might be the way to go Good advice on the extra fuel pump, don't think they are too expensive always good to run as a back up. On the od I guess I can always take it off if it starts getting noisy (noisier) cheers

No problem , i had the 2 pumps to run it not so much as a spare . The std pump at the rear was a low pressure one (for the old carby's) , that feed the high pressure one at the front to get it up to pressure for the injection rail . I did carry a spare high pressure pump but never ended up needing it .
One problem i had though was trying to get the setup to run with the mild engine tune. I had a MGB GT engine block with ported heads , high comp pistons , mild cam , extrators and 2 1/2" exhaust . I had to trick the computer to get it to run OK at all rpm's. Maybe it was because of the old flap type air flow meter , probably OK with a hotwire setup.

Kappa130's way will work fine and is easy. I picked up an EFI tank for $20 with all the bits I needed including pump. It isn't a pressurised system, and there only 5 bolts to remove it.

The filler neck is in a slightly a different spot, but easy to line up. Go with what you find easiest.

Did you get the wiring loom with the ECU and sensors? If not, I would look for a vehicle that is being wrecked and grab one, it will make your life a lot easier.

Don't confuse the LT95 overdrive with the series overdrive - they are completely different pieces of kit - the points you raise are related to the series O/d.

The LT95 has its own oil sump but shares oil with the transfer case - so that if there is enough oil in the LT95 tfr case you will have enough in the o/d.

As far as using the O/D you can use it in 3rd gear as well but my advice is not to and just use in 4th - it will save load on the O/d. When in O/d you will often forget about it and change down and drive off in first etc and it will take it but reduces is life - so just use in 4th and do not load it up.

I was able to get the ecu, wiring loom etc so I am hoping the actual firing up is the easy part, on the od I had thought to just use it for highway cruising partly to extend life but primarily Sydney traffic I woul be lucky to get out of third most times. Does any one have any threads they could pont me to for a step by step attachment of an od to the gearbox or is it very straight forward?

Here is the manual - about half way down second page. http://www.aulro.com/afvb/101-forwar...s-101-a-2.html

Unfortunately the system does not allow docs and pics to be uoloaded more than once so I could not attach the manual here.
