    Bad Vibrations

    Hi All,

    I have a 1984 RR Classic, 3.5L with an LT95.

Around 2 months ago a fully reconditioned LT95 and a new clutch went into the old girl.

Within the last week ive been getting really bad vibrations coming through the gearstick and vibrating the whole car. This only occurs when decelerating. These vibrations are getting worse and worse.

My first inkling was that it could be U-J's but from visual inspection they look like they're in reasonable condition.

Is it worth taking the drive shafts off to inspect properly?

Is it possible to remove drive shafts off separately and drive the vehicle to remove the possibility of diff problems etc?

All help will be very much appreciated!!

    Cheers,

    AJ

Check handbrake adjustment first. A dragging handbrake drum makes it seem like the car is falling apart. If this is ok and free spinning go to drive shafts.

Yep take one off at a time engage difflock and go for a spin. Don't thrash it because all the torque is being put through one axle.
Should help you diagnose the problem.

    Agree with Bundy.

Dragging handbrake feels like the world is about to end in one of these.

Is the phasing of the drive shafts right? If the box has just been done, then someone may have got the driveshafts lined up wrong when sticking them back in - if they were separated in the first place..
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.

The drive shafts were marked with a punch when removed so I don't think thats the problem.

I will check the Handbrake tomorrow.

I'm just confused why it has suddenly occurred, its been running for a while without issue and now its getting progressively worse.

    Thanks for your input!

Broken Rh engine mount? If you park it on a hill with engine running, and held only by the handbrake, does it vibrate more in one direction?

So checked the handbrake, not the problem.
Removed the front drive shaft...and the vibration disappeared.
On closer inspection of the U-J it had seized unable to move in one of the directions. It looks like the grease wasn't able to travel to all 4 parts of the joint.

Sourced 2 from Veales $25ea... not bad!

Cheers for the help! Hopefully this sorts it.
