So the p38 is a better car then? Is it different in all aspects? ie running gear , motor etc
The classic was, like all earlier landrovers, built to be fixed. The P38 was a transition to a time of more integrated electronics and parts designed to be replaced rather than fixed (wheel bearings etc).

Unfortunately the P38 was too early for standardised electronics. Longer term it appears to be the loser in the collectable and usable stakes. The classic is the classic and can be fixed easily for minimal cost with lots of interchange with disco and defender. Where the P38 can't and has a lot of proprietory parts.

If I couldn't have my classics, I'd have an early td6 L322 and try to fit a 6sp manual gearbox.

Series (yes, we have'nt mentioned them-but I will...) Classics and P38's.

Whatever, it's more important to start with an understanding / tolerant Wife
. Or one from a polygamous culture....

You're right on the money there. This is what we're going to see in the next decade or so as the early electronic cars start to really age. The Classic Rangie was meant to have parts replaced and rebuilt and that's going to translate into those cars lasting longer as people with no sense whatsoever, (er, like me), rebuild them at home. It just means that the average slob, (like me), can afford to own one. I couldn't afford a P38 because of the ongoing expensive repairs, and I'm talking about in the next ten years or so.
At any given point in time, somewhere in the world someone is working on a Land-Rover.

The L322 is a much better looking unit than the P38.

I bet it blows the P38 off the road too.

    Handling, braking and acceleration wise.

The Classic is my preference over the P38.

However, if I got another RR it would be the L322.

I've put 100k miles on my 94 Vogue LSE with working air suspension.

    Loved every one of them...
Which is why I have a Classic and an L322 .

    I had a 1994 Vogue LSE.
The soft dash air suspended long wheelbase Rangie.
    It was GLORIOUS !

The injected 3.9 is light years ahead of the old carbied 3.5. But its a heavy car so fuel economy is going to be, well, uneconomic.

If you get one DO NOT get rid of the air suspension - when it works ( ) it's the best thing ever !

I only sold the car because the wife at the time travelled from Redcliffe to Mt Gravatt to work and it was costing us $100 / 4 days in fuel ! Ouch !
Anyway now she's my ex-wife. Moral: I shoulda kept the Rangie...
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

No wonder it was keyed. If I had the room, I'd buy it and part it.
