    '84 Range Rover Emission Hoses

    G'day all,

I've just bought my first Rangie with a 3.5 lt V8 and took it in for a roadworthy. Among other things, the 'Imision hoses' are missing. Is this an easy job for a mug like me to replace/re-fit? And if so, anything I need to look out for?

    Thanks, mfs24

From memory it is not a hard job as long as where the hoses go onto still there and blocked off, you will just need the hoses (and possible the little breather thing as well).

I have a V8 county so I can take a photo if you like if nobody else can help who knows more as they should be reasonably similar.

I do remember putting fishing sinkers in the ends of the pipe so that they are blocked, either on the v8 or the old series 3.

    oh and welcome.

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your purchase.

The only emissions gear on that model was a charcoal canister I think. If the canister is there, you will just need a vacuum line and the fuel tank breather pipe running to it.

I may have a spare canister in the garage if you don't have one - I can check if you like.

They also had air injection on the exhaust side of the heads, this involves an air pump, and a mess of small metal pipes.

Oh is that what all that gubbins is/was on mine?. It was never connected to anything, so I left it. What does the air pump look like and where does that live?

I've never seen one, but in the manual it looks like a small power steering pump. I think most of those terrible mid 80's emission gear did not survive past the warranty period.

Thanks everyone for replying! Any photos, or even better, parts would be appreciated. There are still little connection points with small 'spikes' on them near the exhaust manifold I think it is, but Im not sure there is anything like a filter in that area

I'll have a look at what I have in the morning. Can you post a pic or two of your engine bay so we can see what may be missing? A photo of the exhaust manifolds and the drivers side of the engine bay where the canister is supposed to live.

You can see the peices that the hoses are supposed to attach to, they have a small pin that looks like a small dot on each bolt that is slightly above the exhaust manifold boltsPB083336.jpg
