    The most basic question of all time

    Just about to do my first ever oil change....Before I start though, how much oil is needed for a 3.5 lt V8? I dont want to get to the refilling part and feeling rather impressed with myself, then realise I don't have enough here. Thanks

    5.1 litres in the sump
    0.56 litres in the filter

    Thanks for that, the 260 odd related posts were a few too many for me to go through.

    One last question though, alot of people seem to be saying you need to replace the washer on the plug when you change the oil, is this true?

    It is always best to replace the washer on the sump plug, but not mandatory. When you replace the sump plug, make sure it's tight, but don't wind it in so tight that you damage the thread in the sump. There is probably a torque value for this, but I don't know what that would be.

    Also don't do what i did on one of my old rangies years ago and forget to put sump plug back in.Very messy plus a trip into town for more oil
