Hey all... no purchase yet... the fella who was going to sell his 92 Vogue is reluctant to let it go at the moment... if I sit on my hands and wait I'm sure I'll get it, though not sure if patience is one of my virtues... looking at an 88 Vogue UK import at the moment. Low k's and looks mint in z pictures, but I guess they all do. Its the carby 3.5, so I guess a little simpler and less electrics to worry about. Also think it has a different auto to the 92?

Not having any personal experience,- but there are experts here who will warn you about the horrendous rust potential underneath such an old English car. - They put salt on the roads in winter...

Sigh. I posted this yesterday and it was lost in the crash.
    Here is a short version.
An 88 3.5 should be a Flapper injection if unaltered. It is illegal with carbs and there is a remote possibility you could be refused rego.

If it has a flapper, they are all old and usually now run badly and parts are impossible to buy new.
I recommend you get a 89 onwards 3.9 with 14CUX ,as when all sensors are OK , they run very well, and the parts are readily available.
The autos are functionally the same but the 3.5 has a lower torque rating.(2HP22vs 4HP22)
    Regards Philip A

    There`s a 3hp22 ( not in a RR ) but you`ll be hard pressed finding a 2hp22 .

The first number for ZF autos denotes the number of gears .

The 3.5 locked the converter earlier but as far as i know that`s the main difference .

    And?
    Regards Philip A
OK for some reason the post other than your/my quote did not show.
Of course. I have always thought it was a 2HP 22 but it must be a 4HP20 as it had a low torque rating than the 22 in the 3.9.
And the lock up was at AFAIR 68Kmh not 80 Kmh as the 3.5 does not have injector cutoff at 1500RPM.
    But the result is the same.GET a 3.9 .

    Thanks for the Advice Fella's.
I'll take your advice in mind and do some more research. The 88 I mentioned has been successfully imported and is currently registered.
I'll ask the guy if it is injected, as he listed it as naturally aspirated.
The reason I'm looking at the 88 is that it is a fully optioned Vogue with only 117k on the clock, and it was in dry storage for 9 years. The interior is mint and there are no oil leaks what so ever. The paint is good and body strait with only a little surface rust coming through the bottoms of the rear doors. it is also cheap going at $5k.
Unfortunately I can't see it in person until I fly (from North Coast NSW to Syd) to pick it up, so all the above info is only currently validated from photos and over the phone... a leap in faith I know... maybe not a good Idea.
I'm keen to get a Rangie asap so I can do a Fraser mission in March with friends and family.
I'd way prefer a 92 upwards but there doesn't seem to be any available in the condition I'm after at the right price

Thanks again for all the input.

4PH20 was introduced in 1995 and is used in front wheel drive vehicles .
