    454 > 2 door RR

Apart from the issue of weight is this stupidity assuming beefy tranny/drivetrain and good mount solutions.. I have one of each and every day the rangie and the big block seem to edge closer towards each other .... the old 3.5 is so tired anyway!!

I would like to go with a 5 speed manual from the classic but dont think it would be up to the grunt.. only problem thus far as mounts are being welded now

Cut the mounts off the chassis and remake in about 20mm plate. They tend to rip out regularly in anything with stupidly over the top grunt, with all the other weight it won't matter.

How are you going to cool it? Over double the displacement, over double the power, it'd be reasonable to expect double the heat.

I can understand the fascination, but I can't see it ever working properly.

First place you need to go is your local approved engineer to discuss if what you want to do is workable. I'm sure it is if you are up for it. Driveline can be sorted for the right dollars, and if it will physically fit, then you should be able to get it to work. Dougal makes a very valid point - what sort of cooling system do you plan to run? There isn't a huge amount of room up front for the massive system you will require to keep it cool, unless you plan to just drive it on frosty mornings.

But, if you have the motivation and money to throw at it, you could end up with a very unique weapon.

The factory 5 speed certainly won't handle the torque from a big block - you would need to find something much beefier, then figure out what sort of TC you will use - a highly modified LT230 should do - and how to mate it to the box, then you just have to work out what diffs you will use - short of fully modified, pegged rover units you would be struggling to keep those in one piece.

Budget wise I would want to have at least $10 to $15K up my sleeve, maybe MUCH more.

Or, after having written all that - was this just a wind up for April fools???

I just can't see it being good at anything but being worked on. IT will be a bugger to cool, it will handle like a turd, it will break all driveline comments.

Yep, that's why you would need to spend massive $$$ to have any chance.

That is what everybody said when I fitted a new 289W in 1967 to a 80" series 1 took LR nearly 20 years to see the light and about another 10 for Toyota Easy to cool handled well but broke every LR part in it except the Tracka joints
