RR first Australian road tests.

1986 model was the first with anti roll bars,my 85 model was the last model without,it was also the last Carby model as 86 year model brought in EFI but still the with the 3.5 litre motor.the outward change was the grille went from Verticle bars to Horizontal, also the first year of the 4 speed ZF auto, which replaced the Chrysler 727 3speed unit,this auto stayed with the RRC and went on to the Discovery 1 which also used the RRC chassis.:)

There were many rrc's after 85 without sway bars.
It depended on spec and market.

My 1986 had the ZF and EFI but no anti-sway bars, it still had the vertical metal grille. I showed my conversion to a horizontal grille here: http://p38arover.com/rover/grille.html

I added anti-sway bars when I changed the rear axle to a Disco rear end that had a MaxiDrive. (I had to change the orientation of one of the rear shocks because the RR set-up had one shock facing forward, one backward. The Disco had both rearward.)

For your rangie to have one shock forwards and one rearward it should be earlier than 86. My ba model 85 has both shocks forward.
but wasn't efi.

My Sept 84 build has both shocks forward. Sept 84 was the start of the Phase 2 with the fully welded body seams.

Hmm. Here's a pic of the left side (that's the fuel filler for the aux fuel tank in front of the shock). This must have been before the rear axle change because the top shock mount is retained by a split pin. I later changed the mounts for later threaded items.

The top of the shock goes forward. I don't have a pic of the other side.

Correct. As I noted, my 10/87 build ('88 MY) doesn't have sway bars (and never has).

That would make the most sense. My 85 also had the split pins, since threaded to 1" with nylock nuts fitted.

Only top spec vehicles got EAS. They made coil springs (and load levellers) in classics right to the end.
I am 90% sure that 94 soft-dash never had sway-bars as sway-bars and load-levellers were usually mutually exclusive. But it's not close enough for me to easily check.

The MY88 that I wrecked several years ago never had sway bars either. No brackets on chassis or axles.
