    RR first Australian road tests.

I am wondering if one of our sages or fanatics here has a copy of one of the original RR road tests, where the journo is sitting in the passenger seat with a ' I think , LRA driver' and they turn off the road into the bush at 70mph.

I can't recall if it was in Modern Motor or Wheels, it may have even been in Sports Car World.

Hoping someone can recall and perhaps copy/paste it here.

Reason being....I did something similar twice during the week. It reminded me of that article.

nothing wrong with doing it IF you know the track exit point.

I've been up onto tracks that start out in better condition than some of the black top around here.

I may have it. I have a lot of the early road tests that I've never got around to scanning.

When did sway bars come in? I had a 81 2 door and did a couple very fast lane changes that I would not do today in any car. While the body roll was high, the handling was quite good.

You learnt to ignore the body roll after a while. I remember dads 77. I can't remember his 88 having them.

Another early journo quip I remember was a journalist having a few beers in an outback pub. A truckie came in and asked who owns that ****ty Rover out the front. 'Testing it mate' was the response from the journalist. 'This is Toyota country out here mate, that thing wouldn't pull a sailor of your sister'. 'Bet you a beer it'd pull your truck' said the journo. The truck driver smiled like he knew something the journo didn't.
They both went out side and the journo suddenly wasn't so sure when he saw a 4 trailer road train full of cattle. They hooked it up and in low first with the centre lock on it pulled away with not a bit of wheel spin. 'Bugger me dead' exclaimed the trucky. 'No thanks' said the journo 'I'm not into that kinda thing, but I will take you up on the beer'.

No sway bars on my '76 or '87 Rangies. No need for them either. It can be fun seeing the concerned expressions on your passengers faces as their elbows scrape the road during spirited cornering.
