88 Classic with distributor? issues
Wondering if anyone has some ideas before I let someone else touch the car.
88 RR running a 93 3.5 Disco motor using Hotwire injection. After running perfectly for about 5 years I turned it off recently and the alternator light stayed on. When restarted it ran fine to about 1500 rpm and then started misfiring so badly the whole drivetrain was clonking and wouldn't rev any higher. You could drive around fine at <1500 revs.
I was running the original ex flapper motor distributor and alternator as I never changed this part of the loom. Not sure which one went first but it looks like one took out the other. First I put the Disco alternator on which solved the charging issue but not the misfire. I then put the Disco distributor in which reduced the misfire. However since it's got a vibration between 1000 -1500 rpm and puffs through the exhaust like its running on 6 or 7 cylinders then seems OK after 1500 and up.
I've swapped the cap, rotor button, leads and plugs between motors and no difference (all used bits). Is there anything I may have missed? Have I introduced the rough running with the different module on the dizzy?

This might sound like an obvious question but are you 100% sure you have the leads connected to the correct spark plugs? It might pay to have someone else you know double check for you.
1,3,5,7 on passenger side from front to back of car 2,4,6,8 drivers side front to back of car.
No. 1 is on the right hand side of the dizzy cap clamp that is pointed toward the front of the car right next to the ignition module mounted to the side of the dizzy also on the right. Not sure of cap firing order.

Sounds like a few LR electronic dissies I've come across, they have peculiar ways of dying those Lucas modules. An upgrade detailed in this thread might solve all your problems.
