Thread: V8 Radiator Replacement Options

Bump.

An amusing update . . . I got in touch with a shop that does rebuilt or new vintage radiators. I actually got an email reply that was, I realised later, intended to put me off, telling me to call. So I did, and had one of those experiences you get when you call a grumpy specialist who seems to hate the world and you have to gently calm them down without it being obvious what you're doing.

Apparently he can do the ultimate recore, the kind of thing aliens would cross the galaxy for, but won't give more than a very rough quote, and also apparently now what I'll do is take whatever he's told me and go along to my nearest cheapo rad shop. Deary me.

I was all set to cough up the money but then I thought: if this is what he's like now, what will he be like if there's a problem?

Did you see the link on one of my posts on page 1? Someone here did just that, using Ford parts. It sounded pretty bloody good, actually.

At the moment I'm using a 3-row Natrad recore from 2003. It came from a wreck I bought and it's turned out to be a great radiator. Considering the whole wreck cost me $400 several years ago, I suppose with all the other bits I've used from it this rad cost about $50!

Unfortunately the company who supplied the new faulty radiator couldn't get their heads around the fact that is was faulty and didn't want to know about it . . . so that's about $700 down the drain, and yet another Aussie parts company on my blacklist. Unbelievable!
