    87 Vogue Fuel leaks

I have been passed on a 1987 vogue that is not in to bad a condition, but the catch is it was given to me not running and after everyone had taken turns in being a professional and playing with things. Turned over, but would not fire.
It is located in a remote region and I only get to play on it about 1/2 day at a time, first proved spark, second proved TDC and rough spark alignment. Fuel was pumping up so guessed it was the ECU, changed out ECU same issue, tested inject for voltage found signal so installed an external fuel pump to get extra pressure and the old girl fired, extreamly rough but fired (timing could be anywhere, will do this first on next visit).
Now that is the history and brings me to the current story, next time I go, I am going to try and replace the fuel hoses as there is a few leaks, don't know if from people playing with them or just age. looks like a little bit of a mission to get to some of the inject hoses etc, can anyone advise on difficulties, hoses I should take, tools etc. As I said it is remote, a couple of hours by boat, so if I miss things it is another month or 2 before I get another chance.

    Thanks in a advance.

Take a 5 metre roll of 8mm EFI hose and a quantity of clamps, say 20. The injector hoses and rail joiners are all this size. Also take a short length of 4mm vacuum hose and a spare fuel pressure regulator if you can. I've seen fuel pressure regulators fail and leak fuel into the inlet manifold by their short vacuum hose. Take a tube of suitable sealant to reseal the inlet manifold plenum as you need to take it off to access the injector rails. And a decent 6mm allen key to undo same.

If you can borrow a working flapper air flow meter I try substituting that too, unless you are confident enough to lift the cover off the old one and adjust it to make it run better. Also assume unless you know better that the fuel in it is as old as the barrier reef.

Thanks, I was hopping that someone would be able to tell me the sizes. I have 2 spare air flows over there so hopefully should be ok. Just prior to adding the second fuel pump I grabbed a whole EFI system off another car so that should provided me with a spare regulator if requried.
Am i correct in saying that if the secod pump was run in parralel with the first things should be ok? Does the extra fuel bypass back to the tank? I have currenly just hooked it inline next to the fuel fuel filter in the rear wheel well.

The fuel gets pumped around in a loop like you are suggesting. The return line is next to where the fuel filter connects and enters the tank at the top front.

If i understand correctly you have hooked your second fuel pump in series not parallel. The original fuel pump on the EFI models are in the tank. It would mean the second fuel pump is pulling fuel through the first. you need approx. 35 psi fuel pressure.

The injectors might just need a run to clean them out, take some injector cleaner with you when you get it running let it run for a while. Also if you are removing the intake plenum and fuel lines it might be worth changing the injector seals (2 per injector) as well. It is easy and cheap and saves removing the intake plenum twice.

You are correct, the second pump is in series, the parallel comment was what I was thinking of doing with the power so it runs on the existing control etc. will use a relay if needed.
I like the idea of injector cleaner.

So once I started working on it i found nearly every fuel line was loose, upon inspecting the injector hoses found the injector end appreared moulded. So started tightening everything up, then kicked in the pump to find leaks and tightened again. eventually got all leaks, and put back together, kicked over (rough) set timing, let it run for a while with injector cleaner and after a
bout 15 minutes of smoke and backfires she came good. Drives fine except there is no power steering, was fighing tide times so had to leave. Did have time to check the fluid level and found it to be good, while i never checked I don't remember any belts missing so am guessing they are all there.
Can anyone advise ideas on checking where the fault lies. When driving there is no shudder etc. just heaving like no pump?

Thanks for the help with the fuel.
