Body swap a rangie to another rangie

    Hay all.
A mate rolled his classic and wants to do a body swap. I've never done it. Has anyone done one and how a pain the ass is it. It's a 1986 carbie. Any handy hints?

    Cheers nat

It depends on how bad the damage is and where it is.

You can try to lift the whole body off in one hit but that means undoing a lot of wiring or you can leave the firewall in place and dismantle the rest of the body and fit the new parts. The RRC is just like a big mechano set.

Is it the fully welded body shell version? Big job that one.

I did a body rebuild on this MY85, after a 70kph rollover. The rebuild was possible because they were the Meccano Set version bodies.

    Its a 1986 4 door.

He rolled it, so a roof, bonnet, cowl, and thats about it, and a rear tail light panel (cant remember what they are called).

I think the 1986on are welded. I know the roof is. no biggy.

    cheers NAT

A lot changed in 86. Carby to EFI. Welded body. There are a lot of bitza's in that year as they changed things over - I know cause I've got one.. If it is the carby version, then you should be fine, but you may find a surprise in there that shouldn't be.
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.

The door gaps are the same, its an optical illusion caused by the camera position and angle!

`86 onwards were spot-welded wings and pillars at the least, I think. Not sure about the roof as my Dad's `89 still has a fastened roof as far as I can tell. I have an early `86 Hiline/Vogue which at the least still has screws at the top of the door openings.

Get your mate to take a look at Grimace's RRC, close enough is good enough.
