    Cold starting problem

    Hi oh knowledgeable ones.

My 3.5 twin carb (stromberges) has become a real pain to start from cold. I've checked the choke, it seems OK, indeed it changes the engine sound etc when it finally runs, so I can pretty much rule that out (I think) I have just put in a new Dizzy complete with module so eliminated anything to do with that. Also checked oil in dash pots, all good there. Plugs are recent and clean. Battery is great and it runs fine once warmed up, and it starts in a split second of touching the key. Anything obvious I could have missed?

    Thank you

Have you checked the dist cap for cracks etc? Could be condensation causing arcing when damp if parked outside. (Only one of many possibilities)

Old one was a bit ropey, but as per post I have installed a brand new (probably should have stated complete) new Dizzy. I was thinking along the same lines, alas not the problem

Early morning damp air can play havoc with otherwise good ignition. The single most overlooked parts in my experience are the ignition lead boots. If they are not a really tight fit you will have endless trouble with damp. I use the Bosch leads for this reason, their well made boots keep out moisture very well.

It's also important to look closely at your choke, the mechanism has two parts, namely the enrichment and the fast idle. Both need to work in tandem to get it to run.

Having just replaced the whole Dizzy & cap, I think I shall put her in for a tune and get it all re-setup. I will check for linkage issues but it's odd as it was OK! Albeit in the warmer months
