Geez, not using them if you can have 4 fail in one hit...
I don't even know what I use - what the cars came with - I've never changed 'em...![]()
Hi All,
I use NGK PB6ES and about 4 weeks ago changed all 8 spark plugs.
I was staying overnight in Orange Grove ....anyway started car as usual ....its been bloody cold (for Perth) thought I'd run it while packing some gear back in.
While I was collecting gear it stopped running ....which I thought was fine being cold and went to restart her, cranked over but nothing.
Turned over tried to start then nothing just turning over and over.
Rang my brother , came around and we started checking spark etc..
We replaced coil with new one and a bush mechanic living at the property came over and helped get her started.
Final outcome ...all four spark plugs on R H Side bank had failed.
While we were pulling each plug out to test spark the more plugs we removed the more the engine wanted to fire and run (go figure)
Mines a 3.5L V8 RRC with CD175 Carbies ....so what spark plugs do you use and has anyone used or is using platinum spark plugs ....their bloody expensive but if more reliable I'm willing to try them.
Cheers
Baggy

If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.
BP6ES is too cold for petrol only use. If you must use NGKs get BP5ES ones or better still run Bosch WR8DC+ plugs, they are kinder to the threads in the cylinder head. Bosch plugs are nickel plated rather than zinc and this reduces their chance of binding to the alloy.
Want to be careful checking for spark with the plugs out especially after a likely flooding , had one catch on fire on me once , on the plus side it is a more efficient way of using fuel in one of those bests
Bee utey - Thanks mate your knowledge on all things Rover is appreciated.
As a note I range Repco and the counter person told me that the higher the number on NGK plugs the hotter the plug .......
I'll check out who has your recommended Bosh plugs and order some.
Currently she's running some old Bosh plugs I had in an old tool box (must be a good 10 years old) I'd used to keep the old plugs as spares but have been tossing the old ones each time I change them.
Chopper ...Till recently I seemed to have a flooding issue with the carbies and that thought wasen't far from the back of my mind
Bacicat .... won't use those spark plus again though wouldn't mind if I could follow your lead not change them - period
Thanks everyone .....
Cheers

The Repco guy must be thinking of Champions. NGK work the other way the higher the number the colder the plug. Have a look at their website.
I get 40,000 km out of a set of normal NGKs on my 3.5 carb but these are BP5E VG which are the older V groove plugs which I used to get from Kmart on special (same as a red Holden 6) Now Kmart is useless I will have to find a substitute next time.
Hi Bundy,
Yes ......the old V groove, were recommended to use on my old Disco that I had gas converted ......good spark plug.
I used to buy them from Repco ....funnily enough.
I rang Supacheap where I purchased the spark plugs from just to say I know I dont have my receipt not asking for them to be swapped over but just to advise that out of eight new plugs four failed.
The female manager who I was put through told me .....yes sir while they do have a warrentee )if you had a receipt) if any of the components on your engine ie your coil caused the plugs to fail they wouldn't be covered by the warranty.
That got my goat up a bit ......its an 81 V8 Rover engine with no electronics (per say) std coil .....and what do you think a coil and spark plug are for .........I haven't been back since, not if that's the knowledge of the store managers.
I was away last week the rover stayed at homeIve sourced the plugs recommended by bee utey
so they will be the first job on Saturday.
Cheers
