    SUSPENSION!!!

Tax time is here, Rangie is close to being on the road, all is left is SUSPENSION!!!!

I have my heart set on a kit from Terrafirma. 2 inch lift with cranked front and rear arms, dislocation cones, spring plates, shock towers, bushes and bolts.

You do need do BYO springs but thats no dramas as i don't like the colour of their springs anyways... was thinking Dobinsons springs.

Am i going over the top?

    What would you do different?

Not over the top, rather under done. TF stuff really is the bargain basement of gear... Unfortunate Proof that sticking a fancy logo on a low quality product can make it popular.

Cones are more about bragging rights (oh look at my flex ) and do SFA for traction (an unloaded wheel is not driving anything anywhere - lockers do)

2" Lift wont need cranked arms.

My list for a 2" would be...

Dobinsons (or coil brand of choice)
Rear Upper and lower retaining plates
Bilstein shocks to suit 50mm lift

Or, if keen for cheaper shocks... OME Nitro Sport...

I'm also looking to lift my Rangie to run some 33s. I'm looking at kits from LRA and APT Fabrication. Leaning to APT who have a full kit, arms and shocks, while LRA have a spacefaring kit.

I put a 35mm lift in my '88 RRC and i ended up fitting caster correction bushes as the drive was terrible, it wouldn't track straight on off camber roads, pot holes where fun as the car steered the direction of the pot hole. With the 3 degree caster correction kit (Supapro) has fixed everything and it was easy to fit as they came with to scale fitting diagram.

I'd say the arms are not required, to save some cash simple fit the bushes. But make sure the fitting instructions do not require you to measure anything, the supapro ones were about $100 on ebay.

I've got 305/70 R16 (33X12) fitted and it drives great now.

I've fitted in order to run the 305/70 R16 (33X12)

50mm body lift (not sure not a pro job)
    35mm suspension lift (Tough Dog)
-25mm offset rims (Highline 4X4 Traralgon)
75mm flared guards from (Padock spares UK)

The terra firma stuff isn't too bad, I fitted a 2 inch kit to a Disco once worked out okay. Castor correction wasn't required and it drove fine in a straight line funnily enough. Had plenty of flex and seem to work well so I can't knock the stuff although I did get the kit at mates rates.

I don't keep my Rovers long enough to warrant spending a huge bag on suspension I do tend to go down the cheaper route.

The kit you are looking at is the dislocation kit by the sounds! King coil springs will lift 2 inches. The cranked radius and trailing arms are just for maximum articulation. I had terriferma shocks they lasted 2 weeks! But they replaced them under warranty! Yet to fit the new ones! Amazing articulation though! Just try to keep standard bushes! The poly ones.... Yer they last longer but stiff ride!!

What is the standard ride height measurement from top of wheel arch. I read on earlier forums that 450mm is standard.

I've just bought a 94 Classic and measured axle to wheel arch at 500mm and top of rim to wheel arch around 280mm.

It's already running 30" and want to go to 33". Do I need more suspension lift, or just a body lift?

Apologies for the upside down photo!

You can't get away with just the body lift. They will still rub on the guards when the suspension compresses. You will need to cut the guards to run 33" tires.

Alternatively you could fit extended bump stops to limit the upward travel of the axles to prevent the tires from rubbing on the guards. You will also need -25mm offset rims to run 33" tires as they are too wide which mean you will likely need wheel arch extensions anyway so you may as well cut the guards.

It is my opinion it would be a shame to limit the articulation of one of the best articulation 4WD's ever invented even by today's standards. The counter argument it would be a shame to cut up such a good looking 4WD.
