Sounds like an idea but -
Even though the chassis are similar I'm wondering if you'll run into complications with the chassis number with rego .....
Other alternative of course is to transfer the tdi mechanicals to the RR chassis
Planning to put my 87 hi line body on a 94 d1 300tdi chassis,as it's worth nothing as is but with a 300 tdi might be worth something.Mechanical bits fairly straight forward, but wiring has me a bit concerned.Glow plugs ect.Any tips appreciated.Oh,can i use the rangies auto with tdi torque converter?0nly asking because converter seems to be stuck on shaft.

I know it has been done, just need a mod plate as that engine was never an option in aus.,will still use original compliance plate.
This has been done before. If you run a search you will find the thread and be able to ask that person directly. Might be more helpful for you.
As i recall it was pretty simple and he ended up registering it as a Disco 1 because the chassis number and engine number match that way.
Also my '88 RRC has wiring in the loom for a RRC diesel engine. You might find the wiring is already there for you to use.
I've just completed a Tdi conversion in my 93 RRC, I also looked into a D1 body swap as it would be a straight forward swap. however it looked to complicated to get it registered.
The wiring is very straight forward, all you need from the V8 Engine Harness is the Oil Pressure sender wire, Water Temp sensor wire and the + off the coil for the Fuel shut off solenoid.
Also you can't use the Auto gearbox out of the V8 as it is geared differently, you'll need to get an auto gearbox out of a tdi discovery.
Happy to talk you through the conversion if you're interested.
Plan B.Going to put tdi and auto box from d1 into classic.Chassis on classic is fine,as is body.Spoke to guy who does mod plates and he said much easier to get rego with original chassis.Have a complete d1 as doner, does d1 steering box fit in classic chassis, also like to use plastic fuel tank?
