which oil filter 3.5 carby engine

hi there, I have a rangie 3.5 v8 twin carby, engine number 14d01878 build date 10/1983. I have just drained the oil removed the rocker covers and sump, also completely disassembled the rockers arms and shaft, I have cleaned them up as there was quite a bit of carbon and sludge build up. I have fitted new rocker cover and sump gaskets, pulled the cover off the oil pump. and filled pump gears with petroleum jelly as per rangie manual, fitted new oil pump gasket and a repco brand z9 filter, also poured the required amount oil in(5.1 litres),also I filled the oil filter up before screwing it on, I start the engine no funny noises oil light goes out, the oil pressure gauge reads up to number 2, out of maximum 4, when I rev the engine the gauge and or oil pressure doesn't go up as it previously did before the work, and when I stop the engine the gauge is still on number 2, where previously it went back down. the gauge is electrical, is the oil pump still holding pressure, and am I using the right oil filter. the filter I took off is a oem landrover written on it part number ERR3340. I also read all the info on here about oil pumps, but there is nothing about which filter to use, the rangie manual doesn't tell me either, please help solve my problem. thanks from peter

IIRC, a Z9 (garden variety falcon filter) or the physically shorter Z89.

It sounds to me like your sender for the gauge is dead. Maybe some gunge has blocked it.

You haven't mixed up the sender wires by any chance? Although if the oil light goes off then it should be correct.
Any mechanic should have a mechanical gauge that they can plug into your oil pressure light sender position and see the actual pressure.

    oil pressure

yep thanks fellas, overnight the oil pressure gauge went back down to zero. I took rangie for a good drive to warm everything up, I thought maybe there is still some petroleum jelly unmelted in the oil pressure relief valve, the gauge goes up to number three now so theres no problem with oil pressure itself, but when I turn the car of the pressure gauge still reads number two. where as before the work it went back or down to zero, also whilst I had the sump, oil pump cover, oil pick up tube, and rockers off I used compressed air to blow back through oil pump to clear any debry, I might unscrew the pressure sender and check for blockage.
    thanks from peter

To be honest I haven't used petroleum jelly in an oil pump for many years. On a Rover the best bet is to make a tool to spin up the oil pump with the distributor removed. After a minute or two on the power drill there's no part of the lubrication system that doesn't have oil up to it. On an engine with a different setup you can just remove the oil pressure switch and pump a litre or two of oil into the galleries with a hand pump.

Re-gurgitating old info... Someone on the Forum raised the possibility of clearance - or lack of it - around the longer Z9 filter when the front axle is fully 'UP'... when the moon is blue and Jupiter aligns with Mars...

    - Or is it merely ground-clearance, hanging an inch or so lower and risk being hit

I've always been advised to use a branded Z9, cheaper AFAIK than the Z89
