    Subwoofer wiring

    RRC Softdash ......

    I have the Subwoofer box at the rear and it has 2 plugs connecting to the Sub Amplifier ...

    1 small plug with 3 wires ... Purple / Red / Black

    1 large plug with 6 wires .. 1 side of this plug has Green / Black .. other side of this plug has "Sea green" / Red / Blue / Yellow

    I have installed a Sony head unit and am looking to hook into the Subwoofer but need to get an idea what these plugs do "IE Power / Line in / line out" .... so that I can bridge into it

    Cheers

    Armed with some more internet reading time, I found out that the sub woofer is a dual voice coil and and
    appears to require 2 sets of POS+ & NEG= inputs to the speaker ... Hence 4 wires going to the Sub speaker

    So I had another look at the plugs ... and this time, armed with a multi meter.

    First thing is a correction of wire colour description,

    1 small plug with 3 wires ...

    Purple with Yellow stripe = 12v Trigger wire (Stereo ON)
    Red with Yellow stripe = Pos+ LINE IN (Not confirmed yet)
    Black = NEG- LINE IN (not confirmed yet)

    1 large plug with 6 wires ..

    1 side of this plug has the following wires >>
    Green with Orange stripe = POS+ 12v
    Black = NEG- (Earth)

    .. other side of this plug has the following colours >>>
    "Sea green" / Red / Blue / Yellow = Speaker wires
    The actual identity of which is POS+ & NEG- and which is paired, has not been confirmed yet.

    Bit more research by pulling the SUB box apart will reveal more.

    So now, I have to chase the Audio LINE IN wires back through the wiring harness to the ISO plug at the stereo, so I can feed a active line to it.

    Cheers

    G`day , ours has a pioneer .

    With ours it was just a matter of using pioneer / iso plugs changing 1 wire in 1 of the iso to a different slot and then connecting 1 wire for the woof to the pioneer separate output .

    All wiring was done at the head unit slot and only the woof was not just plug in .

    I`ve forgotten now but spent alot of time working out what wire did what and what head unit might work , i don`t remember now which others may but the pioneer was one that had the extra connectors to run the woof and or amp .

    Can`t help other than to say it`s easier than it appears to be .

    ... I found very little info on the net about this subject. So I'm doing this thread so as to make it easier for the next person.

    Update of wire colour description,

    1 small plug with 3 wires ...

    Purple with Yellow stripe = 12v Trigger wire (Stereo ON)
    Red with Yellow stripe = Pos+ LINE IN
    Black = NEG- LINE IN

    1 large plug with 6 wires ..

    1 side of this plug has the following wires >>
    Green with Orange stripe = POS+ 12v
    Black = NEG- (Earth)

    .. other side of this plug has the following colours >>>

    I found the Subwoofer wires at the ISO plug at the Stereo end ....
    Red with Yellow stripe = Pos+ LINE IN
    Black = NEG- LINE IN

    So I cut up and added some connectors to a old RCA lead, so that I could connect the stereo to the ISO plug and now have sound input happening ...

    Now I have a new issue ... alternator Whistle through the Sub amp ... Now to find a way to suppress it ...

    Cheers

    alternator Whistle gone ... Went to Jaycar and spent $10 on a Ground Loop Isolator .... Product is called "Response" ---- Part No AA-3084

    It was the Audio line feed, from the stereo to the Subwoofer amp at fault.

    Installed the isolator to the back of the stereo and all good. It was all Plug n Play .... no soldering required.

    Next job is to pull the Sub box apart and actually have a look at the condition of the suspension rubber of the speakers.

    Cheers
