RRC Restoration. Which colour? I can't decide.

    Hi All,

I am calling for suggestions. I am in the process of restoring a late 1989 RRC Vogue, the car is currently Cairngorm Brown with Brogue Brown cloth.
It is no longer a 3.5 but is a Vitesse 4.0 with top hat liners etc etc (previous owner paid $9,000 for it) and is in process of getting Megasquirt, scorcher distributor etc
The cars interior is sensational (looks as though no one has ever been in it) so that will stay apart from a freshen up of the timber work and a period correct Overfinch style Momo wheel.
My real dilemma is the outside as the Cairngorm is a well ummm unusual colour and can't decide to stay the same or change to Santorini Black, Epsom Green or a dark blue as I plan to fit late badging, chrome bumpers, light guards and late D1 5 spoke alloys.
Thoughts? Feelings? I am well confused!

I have an Epsom Green P38 with a brown/tan interior. Not my cup of tea but someone must have liked it enough to buy it .

    HI HPR50,
Epsom Green will look OK with the upholstery I think. Are you stripping everything off the car? Otherwise you'll end up some stuff the old colour.
I've just sent off my Vintage Red '82 2 door off for spraying and I'm sticking with the same colour. Of interest to you I had an Overfinch/Chev/3 speed TH400/Schuler transfer box while I lived in the UK years ago. Always thought the engine swap spoilt the car in my opinion. Wish I had just had gone for larger Rover engine like yours.
I'm down your way by the way.

    Jools.

It's more of a light tan velour (though I call it towelling). I have attached pics of the actual car in its current state in lovely brown. Strangely this RR has matte black in every door jam, under bonnet etc which appears to be 100% (look at interior photo) factory though all will be stripped back for paint etc.
Yeah Jools I'd say we are in the same lovely part of the world.

As per Discojools, I have an 81 2 door body on my 74 RRC in Vintage Red. All columns and engine bay, all interior metal bits are the same colour.

I think around 85 the engine bays stayed black......... pretty sure it's just the primer. Didn't know columns, etc were left that way later on.

I had full intentions of spraying the 81 body white (like the original 74) but it would have been a massive amount of work.......... for me there was no way could there be any red left.

In your case (black engine bay, etc) probably not that bad to do a colour change if you really want to.

    cheers, DL

With a car like yours if you were considering santorini black, ( which I've had on 2010 RRS) I would go the new Rrs black which has red flakes through it. A stunning color and very unique. I think it is Barolo black
