    86 auto gear selector

    hmmmm

    part 24 just slide up and down part 4 at present...

    what supposedly holds the selector knob in the right place on the selector lever?

    there is a nut at the top but nothing to stop it sliding down that i can see?

    help !

    Part 24 should have a shoulder in the receptical hole for part 4.

    Basicaly ... Part 24 slips onto the shaft (Part 4) and rests on the bottom of the thread (hence, shoulder) and then you just wind on the nut for part 4 to tighten the handle down ..... Assemble the rest to complete the selector handle.

    If part 24 is just sliding down past this thread .. then I suspect that part 24 is damaged. (or a Washer use to live inside part 24)

    Solution would be .... Find 1 out of a Disco 1 ... because it looks to be exactly the same part and setup to me

    Woke up this morning and remembered this ....

    The shaft (part 4) should have a slot in the threaded area (Key way) ... The part 24 should have a "Key line" in the plastic receptacle hole.

    This is what keeps the handle in position (and stops it twisting left / right)

    I guess the plastic key line is missing / broken.
