Remove the transfer case, then remove the rear housing from the auto you will be able to see the park mechanism to see if it is engaging correctly.
If you then remove the spud shaft you can easily remove the governor to check the 3 sealing rings.
The governor can cause all sorts of problems in the auto.
The only difficult part of this job is removing the transfer case.
Mocky.
Setting up the cable adjustment from scratch might be worth a try in case something's amiss inside the console selector mechanism.
Hi Guys, thanks for all the advise.
I spoke to a transmission guy today and he has confirmed that the gearbox is gone. The forward gear clutch is welded itself on hence why i have drive in park gear and why I have resistance when the selector is in reverse.:censored:
Now I have to decide if I rebuild the gearbox or get a good secondhand one.
Let me know if you any of you know of a good second hand auto gearbox on the Brisbane area.
Pity about the dollar else you could get an upgraded unit from ashcroft.
Why don't you rebuild it yourself:

there's DIY web pages on it .... I wouldn't mind giving it a crack myself someday :)

Freight for the box is (was) around $600- via DHL air freight. PLus they'll try to sting you for a bunch of "fees" for sending emails, one person on the tarmac handing someone else a piece of paper. That's if it goes on a non DHL flights. If you don't mind waiting then DHL only is a bit cheaper. Sea freight obviously cheapest but allow up to a couple of months and more risk of it going missing.
The ashcroft units have the option of getting the largest torque converter (3 sizes S, M & L) S & M suit all V8 and diesel and the L is V8 only. Also the planetary and clutch cages are much better units than standard, with a few other better bits.
Insurance paid for mine so money was no object.
