is my Transfer case or Gearbox stuffed?

    Hi All,
Looking for some advise and help to a problem that I got.
Today I was driving my 93 RRC which has been converted to a 300tdi with a disco auto and LT230 TC, and I went over a speed bump rather quickly and the transfer case disengaged and went into neutral.
I found that I lost a bolt to the Hi/Low selector on the transfer case and I managed to engage the TC by hand into Low 4. as I was only less than 5kms from home I slowly drove it back home.
So when I got back I reinstalled the bolt and got the TC lever to engage High range and now it won't go in reverse, it drives fine in drive, but when I select reverse it feels like there is resistance as I can put my foot to the floor and the car won't budge.
Sorry for the long story....keen to understand what has happened and how can I fix it.
    Thanks

Could be the hand brake - I have had a similar issue that caused the shoes to lock the brake drum up when in reverse. Very worn and covered in oil. New oil seal in the back of the TC, and a few new bits in the handbrake sorted it.

Pull your rear drive shaft and whip the hand brake drum off - my guess is something's not as it should be in there.
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.

    Thanks Bacicat!

I'll give it a try tomorrow to see if that's the issue.

Unfortunately I looked at the hand brake today and it isn't the problem.
It definitely looks to be the auto gearbox. I goes forward now in every gear including park which is very dangerous.

Does anyone know of a good place in Brisbane to get a landrover auto gearbox reconditioned??

Here's a silly question: Does the gear selector actually select the gears or is the cable just undone? Have someone move the selector as you observe the other end below, handbrake on and engine off of course.

Thanks, but i did get the wife to cycle the gears and yes the cable does move the selector on the side of the gearbox.

I did think that I had TC wind up. but i jacked on of the wheels up and it spun freely.

I think its weird that all of a sudden that I get forward drive when the selector is in park.... and I did check to make sure the selector cable is still working.

Any other ideas are greatly appreciated.

Could be the one way clutch in the auto. They can go with CDL on tar for some reason. one symptom is no drive in D but rev and fwd drive from 1. After reaching around 20k/hr you can change into D and drive but stop and have to go from 1 again. Apparently can have other similar drive/no drive related symptoms depending on what else was taken out at the time. Mine was accompanied by a bang that was louder than any car accident I've seen or experienced but also can be symptom-less and only noticed when trying something it won't do.
