no-one these days seems to understand what a sleeper is I'd happily shove and LS motor into a Rangie, if I could do it and keep it reliable. I wonder if you'd blow diffs/unis if you kept the standard sized tires on there

Before I bought the blue '92, I was considering finding a battered/buggered converted rangie (eg: 350/LS engined) and a nice original car with a buggered motor or 'box and merging them together..... but keeping it bog standard in every other way

The chev/LS would simply run a megasquirt system so my wife could drive it easily without worrying about chokes etc..

It is a lot easier to buy one with a 350 already in it these days as far as reg goes.

I have another with a worked 4.4 that cannot get reg in its current form, but has been regoed with this motor.

When I get time the 2x2 lift will come out, original guards back on and it will have no roof. Only outings on nice sunny days. Sounds the part too.....3" mandrel exhaust.

    Cheers, dl

Mercguy - yes thats exactly what I said to SWMBO that they were necessary upgrades
    .
The 15" rims and profile of the tyres makes the Dia same as original 16" tyres fitted though the width is wider.

My brother has an 87 RRC that has a wooden steering wheel fitted and to me it just added to the finish of interior.

I measured it tonight and its about 14" in Dia.
I'm 1.8H and around 110 kgs ....now that you pointed it out, yes it would make getting in and out of the seat easier but that wasn't the reason I bought it ....it just added a bit of class to the interior.

350RRC - a 350 in a RRC would be nice (auto for me) and if my memory serves me right they actually did do that .....it was a 350 v8 sourced from Peter Brock with suspension enhancements ...someone on this forum had one.

DoubleChevron - understand sleeper well ....heard of a few Volvo owners who used to do that very thing and surprised quite a few holden and ford drivers.

If I had to rebuild my 3.5 V8 ...supercharging has crossed my mind....wonder if anyones done it, was it worth while and how did it behave on road and off road, but a 350 or 351 converson sounds tempting.

    Cheers

My uncle had a 240 volvo when I was a kids... It had a wheezy 4cylinder auto in it.... When the motor died he shoved a 4.4 P76 engine in there. It was rather, er, "quick" I heard running the 4cylinder auto and diff.... Not much top speed though He soon blew them up and had to fixup the gearing though. He had that thing for years and years. It sounded fantastic too.

why can't you register the 4.4 ... head upto vicroads "yeah mate we put a different engine in it"..... put the rover v8 rocker covers on it if your overly concerned. How would vicroads people know what it should be. I reckon you could put anything *except* an LS/350 in there and they wouldn't know it's wrong. The problem with a small block chev or LS1/3 is they'll recognise the engine itself. To many use them for engine conversions.

Allegedly with finned alloy rocker covers a 350 looks like a rover motor.

My 85 was bought a sunfishes project with 253 in it engineered but unregistered. Got a rwc and presented to vic roads who didn't ask for the engineers, asked capacity I advised 5700cc.

Then I put a Sbc in its place. Took a receipt for a range rover v8 engine with Sbc engine number. Done.

Admittedly was almost 15 years ago.

Wrecked it out and vehicle was rebuilt with a 3.9

The 4.4 is not the problem, it was regoed with that motor.

2" spring lift, 2" body lift (nylon) and 35's in current combination are more of an issue.

    cheers, DL
