    new to rrc's

    Hey all,

got a 91 rrc off the forum here... just had a few quetsions about it.

just passed RWC but theres still a few things I want to tidy up.

first off is that the power to the coil has a separate switch in that I have to turn another switch on before the ignition to get it to start up and turn the key off along with the switch to turn it off.

I think apparently a rat might have done some damage to the wires a while back. lol What shuold I look at? get a new coil and rewire it? does it have to be wired behind the dash like original or can I re route it?

also, my A/c switch only works on number 3. so 1 & 2 i get no air and 3 I get air. although I imagine if the a/c was cold it might end up too much. What do I look at?

replace the switch assembly? or is there something else that would cause it?

also how to I adjust the bonnet catch? I know the wire is dry so I have to push it in otherwise I cant close it (but its also missing the rubbers on the adjusters so the bonnet flaps around a bit.

but my main issue with the bonnet I suppose is that it pops open after driving for a while. I'm guessing the cable does not release fully and leaves it in a position wherein it works itself loose? what should I check/look at? other than that its a very tidy unit. All standard apart from radio and a later model dash. I'm sure I'll have a few more questions so I'll probably be here quite a bit (if the wife doesnt have me get rid of it)

Is the bonnet release fully seating back home after you pull it ? I often find I have to push it back in myself for the bonnet catch to hold.

It sounds like you need to pull whatever dash parts are in the way to view the wiring ..... You dont' need to replace anythign if it actually runs with the "new" swtich, you just need to fix the existing wiring. My first start is to always remove all the (usually incredibly poorly done) added wiring, then fix whatever the initial problem was.

yes the bonnet release goes in. when i push the bonnet down it holds. I shake it and it doesnt come out. just does it on its own when driving....

I'm longing for a DS haha.

Nah .. you don't want Citroens .... the damn things breed while your not looking.

Meet Ballarat's 'Citroen nut' | The Courier

Where abouts are you .... I can stick some bang gas in the A/C if it's not leaking. The '92 model Range Rover I just bought blows 4degree vent temperatures after sticking some bang gas in it. If you wife is like mine and tends to get "agitated" ( ) in hot cars, this works particularly well as almost all the A/C vents point to the front passenger seat.

The dreaded brass fitting in the carby .... countless cars have burnt due to that. If you have any old car that features a weber or solex carby with a pressed in brass fuel line fitting. Give it a gentle tug .... I put $$$ on it'll fall straight out.

best fix is a threaded barb.... for a while there one of the guys over on aussiefrogs was sending out a "kit" which included a tap and threaded barbs.

    DS carb fuel fitting

This isn't a Citroen issue... it's all old cars fitted with those carbies So many burn 'cos owners/mechanics aren't aware of this issue

I strongly suggest anyone with an old solex carby on the land rovers check for this (the SD carbies are probably fine ..).

so left it parked at gfs apartment.

neighbours asked us to move it.

my wife rung a towie I used to go to to see if he had any space to keep it

Hehe you think Citr?ens are bad, Try owning a classic Mercedes.... goes something like this....

    you buy one.
3 months later you have a second
another three months you have another 2. (all registered and running mind you, not wrecks or parts cars)

6 months later you buy yet another.
then you lose one to a dipstick p-plater who rear ends you, but you get the salvage and the insurance payout and part out the good bits, and send the chassis to the scrappie.

then 12 months later you embark on an ambitious project, only to see it stall when you get posted overseas. You come home to a pile of cobwebs and a lack of ambition, and a mate makes you an offer you can't refuse...

then you go and buy another one.

yeah, I know how it works. I'm sure the deux chevaux is just as endearing as the goddess. I always wanted a ds21. I have a couple of friends who have a pair of immaculate DS's and a friend of mine in Mannheim who has a black DS cabriolet.

The only thing stopping me from owning one is the rust. I'm not afraid of the hydraulics.

No doubt you're likely a member of aussiefrogs as well eh?

know anyone with an SM? I'd love to go for a drive in one of those one day. I think they would be right up there with the w109 300SEL 6.3 for a relaxing long-distance tourer.
