Does sound like a later 3.9 has been fitted complete with 14CUX EFI. The 4HP22 auto isn't a bad box, the biggest problem will be finding a good unit, but there will be plenty out there and cheap too. I picked up a spare - a good runner - for the princely sum of $0.
For that sort of price, going through the odd one here or there wouldn't be an issue.
As mentioned, Disco 1's are a cheap and plentiful supply of parts.. As you'll need trans lines and a cooler, or auto radiator, a donor vehicle may be the go. That's the way I did mine.
Oh, and if you find a set of extractors on a D1, don't go to all the trouble of ripping out the old manifolds and trying to fit them to the RRC - they don't clear the gearbox crossmember - ask me how I know this...![]()

Yeah it's sounding that way as for engine it is a 14cux unit. The problem it has is one bank the left is constantly open.
In my 86 RRC I have an ex Disco 3.9 EFI dual fuel with a 380 ex Disco gerbox and it is much better car than my old 88 Hiline with a 3.5 EFI with the factory manual GB.
The front diff is an ex Disco as well and I planning to fit complete rear diff at the back soon.
Yeah I think that's mine without the auto.
How much is it usually to fix the synchros
Depends on how much of the job you can do yourself. If you can get the box out and drop it off to your chosen Mechanic, you would save a lot. Even so, the syncros live deep inside the box and requires the main shaft to be removed, and fully stripped to replace them as they live between the gears.

Yep ok so would be better off as before find a donor vehicle.
