    Pop Top Range Rover Classic Conversions

    Hi All,

    Looking for info on pop top Range Rover Classic rooftop conversions and companies that have or do carry out these conversions in Australia or around world for that matter.
    My first Range Rover had one such conversion(aparently used by a guy camping up north to get away from crocs), it was grey however I painted it dark green. It had a fiberglass pop top rooftop camper in place(or a second roof) ontop of the standard roof, a section was cut out of the standard roof which from memory had a frame around sleeping area built out of fiberglass for the fold back slats which you sleep on and climp up onto from inside car. I will try and load up a pic of the car from the exterior maybe from the pc, as the AULRO App is currently not letting me. Unfortunately I have no pics of it open or its interior just one or two exterior shots of the car. I sold it to someone near Bundaberg around 10years ago and have never heard or seen it again offline or online. There is a huge amount of info on defender conversions online, however very little if any on pop up style RRC conversions, anyone got pics or have any info it would be much appreciated. Or maybe you have info on the current whereabouts of my old 76 Pop Top ( Also had a P76, flares, 35s and a lift).

    Ok here are three pics I have found.

    Picture 1 is of My old 76 Range Rover
    Picture 2 is i believe a photoshop
    Picture 3 seems to be very similar in design to my 76

    Many, many years ago, I photocopied an article out of Popular Mechanics or Popular Science on how to do a rooftop conversion using the existing panel. I was going to modify my Ford Transit camper but never got around to it.

    I kept the article in case I ever wanted to do it. I could scan it and post it here if you want to do your own. (I saw the article a few weeks back when I was searching my filing cabinet for something else).

    To whet your interest in other conversions, here are a few pics (Carawagon by the look of it) I took in Cooma in 1998 at the LR 50th anniversary (Carawagon by the look of it).

    Link that shows, amongst other things, the Carawagon folded down.

    Range Rover Conversions - Range Rover Classic

    My thoughts have been along the line of the red RRC photoshopped above, but the whole roof lifting at both ends.

    I would also like a bit more head room.

    My thoughts would be to unscrew the roof, insert a steel collar to add strength back to the coach work, providing cross members for bed support, as well as adding a little head room when driving. Re-install the roof with an incorporated scissor lift, clamping the roof to the collar when driving.

    Agree, basically the mulgo defender design with one or both ends popping up, maybe Mulgo could do a RRC version if they got enough interest or wanted the work, Im lucky to have an LSE so that would work very well with the extra length. The trick would be to ensure the design still looks good and still looks like a Range Rover
