    Seat Base Installation

    Hi Guys,

I'm putting the seat bases back into my 73, 2 door. I removed them about 15 years ago and cannot for the life of me work out how the nuts are fitted to the bolts going into the floor channel.

I've attached the parts diagrams for reference.

Under the floor on the drivers side there is a small slot that accesses the channel, but doesn't line up with the holes. The tapping plate that I have matches the slider holes, but not the seat base holes (as shown in the parts manual).

On the passenger side there is no access to the channel, just a bump in the pressing, where I expected the slot to be.

Am I missing something here, or can someone shed some light on how the seats are supposed to bolt into the floor channel.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Phil

Hi I am not quite sure what parts you are referring to. Normally the seat bases remain as part of transmission tunnel, and don't need removing. The seats slide off by removing front bolt in channel, removing spring that is underneath seat base that helps slide it back, then slide whole seat forward, off runners. These are rollers and square blocks in diagram that fit to pins on vertical piece of steel, top of seat base. Then, when transmission tunnel is removed for gearbox removal etc, the seat bases and transmission tunnel come out as one piece.
The only bolts I have ever removed from seat base were ones that bolt to outer edges of seat base to floor, and along outer edges on inside of seat base. The others, remain as part of transmission tunnel. If these are ones you are referring to, I suspect due to location that you have to remove transmission tunnel to access these. Someone else may know for sure. Do you still have all rollers and square blocks etc after 15 years? If you do great job!

    Thanks Meccles,
It's a long term resto. It's the seat bases that I am installing. I've managed to get the first one in without removing the tunnel. I've had to remove the rear passenger floor and exhaust heat shield. I've made up steel plates with tapped holes and guide wires and managed to slide them in from underneath.

At the moment I have enough rollers but 2 are dented, and missing a couple of pins. I have a spare seats worth put somewhere safe. If only I could remember where that safe place is....

    Will put pics in tomorrow.

    Cheers,
    Phil

The seat bases are finally installed. Ended up making tapped plates and feeding them through the transmission tunnel hinge covers under the floor.

Not a job I want to tackle again soon....

The carpets and interior are from Nationwide Trim in the UK.
