I heard its costly like around the 6k mark and if your in there would be good to stroke it but then could most probably get another engine like a ls2 and have change and more power.

HA HA it is to laugh.
As AFAIR the bloke who has fitted a Ford motor in recent posts said , think of a number double it then double it again.
I think the answer is $20K.
I did a check on the parts from Marks a while ago, and AFAIR that came to around 5K as the starter has to be relocated and an special flex plate used, and a special starter.
And then the auto will last 10 minutes.
    Regards Philip A
BTW the leak at the oil filter MAY be that the adaptor for the oil cooler is loose as it can sometimes unscrew when you change the filter. The sandwich just takes an Oring from an oil filter , so if it is tight and still leaks , undo the adaptor and slip a "new" oring maybe kept from the outgoing filter .

Yeah, good points made by Phil - the cost of an LS2 would be on par with rebuilding the 3.9 but budget up to 3 times that to stick it in and get it working and Engineered. A repower is only an option if you've got deep pockets and you plan on keeping the car forever as you'll never make your money back on it.

But, if you have the means and understand the issues and associated costs that will go along with it, then that's fine.

Remember the gearbox and the rest of the driveline will need upgrading if you want to have any reliability long term. All very doable, all adds to the cost.

Yes yes true and would be one of those should I do it compared to buying something second hand for 2000 and swapping goodies over. As for rebuild or implant cost would be probably on par but you would walk away with more grunt as to standard rebuild with good cams etc. then as you said drive line would need assistance. Seeing it's a Rangie probably not worth it. Looks like I will just fix what I know what's wrong and go till it decides to say I've had enough.

    Thanks guys.

HAhaha that came out wrong I should be ashamed. Meant to say that seeing it's a Rangie you can pick cheap ones up all the time which is why I laugh when people spend 16000k on a 4x4 when you could buy a Rangie for 5k get another one for spares and money for shine parts with change left over. Any way I understand if my language gets me banned from site haha 3.9 rebuild or just fix3.9 rebuild or just fix

Nothing so dramatic, just having a laugh. If you think about it, spending $15 to $20K on an engine conversion on a $1,500 vehicle is bonkers.... But i'd do it...

There is a gentleman on here that can build you an engine using your 3.9 with as much HP as you need.
    PM me.

    as for 4L blocks--
I'd look around for the very earliest 3.9 you can find,, and use that.
