2400/2500 ?????
Evening all,
I have been searching for hours and can't seem to find any info on whether the R380 from a tdi engine will fit a 2400/2500.
It's only a stop gap until I can get the time and money together for a conversion to a tdi.
Any help is appreciated.

How much time and money? Someone up here (not me) might have a Tdi300 with potentially cracked head (not off yet to check) and matching box. Might be something to justify your coming all the way to Darwin for a Christmas meeting...if it ever takes place![]()
Time and money.. Hmm.. None and maybe less than none!
I do eventually plan to do the tdi conversion, but when will depend on the engine that's currently in it.
I was told that it copped a mouthful of water and stopped and resulted in the flywheel bolts snapping. When they pulled the gearbox out, they discarded it. But I have managed to get the motor to turn freely with no noise or binding. Once I get the flywheel back on I was going to attempt to start it, if no luck, save for the tdi/box and hopefully someone sends me some engine mount measurements. If it starts, just get a gearbox until I can afford to complete the rest of the conversion properly.
But hey, if the combo is likely to be available, keep me informed.
I do hope a Christmas trip will happen.

If you ever want to have a discussion Dan has the Tdi300/gearbox, ph 0428280337, his gumtree add
Land Rover Series 2 - 3 Parts 1958 - 1985 | Wrecking | Gumtree Australia Darwin Region - Litchfield Area | 1096682506
We guess he has enough series parts to get about quarter of that pile moving. He also has a series 2 forward control on again off again project that is neat, but a bent ENV rear axle housing is a problem.
Don't worry I plan on dropping the oil and the bottom half of the sump to see what she is like in there.
I actually have doubts whether it did get a mouthful of water.
The air filter has no water damage. There is no evidence of water in the oil and I pulled the glow plugs to see there wasn't even a bit of corrosion on them. I honestly thought I was going to have to fight to get them out. Turns out the hardest part was getting a spanner onto them.
I also read on a international Land Rover forum about these engines had a habit of snapping off flywheel bolts. If you felt how heavy the clutch assembly is with the flywheel and you would probably see how.
So yeah, if it starts and runs, its what I will use until funds dictate otherwise. I'm looking at mid year next year by the time I get this ute kit and get the rest of the vehicle on the road.
I have been told about Dan. He likes to have a conversation I have been told. But thanks, I will give him a call and maybe after Christmas I will go visit, even just to see that yard.

you dont need to pull the bottom out to check for bent rods.
if the glow plugs are out you just go down the plug hole with a known lenght rod and check the protrusion height at TDC
