Fuel pump 93 3.9 Classic
She had been going so well for such a long time I thought I has been blessed by the good genie, no such luck.
It appears that the fuel pump has given up, was of the opinion that a VN commodore pump was interchangeable, I have checked archived posts re: pump replacements, info available indicated early EFI Holden/Falcon pumps were good up till 89.
All advice gratefully accepted.
Cheers Jhonno.

Check the connections on the wiring plug nearest the plug. I have replaced pumps only to find it was a bad connection in that plug.

Well I fitted a VL AFAIR to my 92 with no problems.
AFAIR the terminals are opposite 1 blade small,1 big so you have to fit new connectors.
Otherwise the only hassle is undoing the clamps on the internal pipe and being able to reuse it.

Lift up the load floor carpet, fit a test light to the pump wires and crank the engine. If the light comes on then it's probably the pump. If there's no light it's the wiring. Then look for burnt connectors.
If it's the pump, hit the bottom of the fuel tank (with a lump o' 4x2 or similar) a couple of times, preferably while someone's cranking the engine. A dodgy pump will sometimes start with a sudden shock.
If the pump is definitely stuffed, remove the assembly, drain and dry it of fuel, and dismantle the pot the pump lives in. Inspect the hose between the pump and the housing top plate. If it is rubber and has burst you'll need new submersible hose to fix it. If it's the original concertina plastic hose you mustn't wreck it to release it from the pump. A hammer and a block of hardwood will let you break the pump outlet and remove the bits from the hose. Take the pump and filter sock to a parts store or auto sparky and get a replacement. Fit the new pump with a hose clamp to the original hose. Cut and join the wires as needed if the connector isn't the same. Some Ford pumps I have been told have the same connector as the original so should plug straight in. Make sure you get a new filter sock that fits exactly the same as the original pump in the plastic pot.

This is the pump that I use:
EP381 60PSI 155 LPH High Pressure TBI TPI Fuel Pump | eBay
[ame="http://www.amazon.com/ACDelco-EP381-Original-Equipment-Electric/dp/B000C9SHOU"]Amazon.com: ACDelco EP381 GM Original Equipment Electric Fuel Pump Kit with Seals, Clamp, and Baffle: Automotive@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41Ys6uqRQeL.@@AMEPARAM@@41Ys6uqRQeL[/ame]
It has a higher pressure and volume rating that the VL pumps, etc and therefore does not have to work as hard. This makes it more reliable and longer lasting.
With any of the alternative pumps you may get, make sure you get the pigtail plug that connects to the actual pump (as pictured in the above Ebay listing). It can be difficult to get it later as a seperate item. The plastic on the plug has to be fuel rated, so it is not something you can get from the local electronics store.

Thanks for the input Fellas. Have since found that when cold the pump works, she runs for five to ten mins then no more pump, so onto gas and continue on. Have yet to test if power is still being delivered, trips to eye doc in prep for cataract removal, both eyes over the next week, one of the joys of old age, anyway no working until the all clear is given, will post results/ask for advice when able.
Thanks again
Jhonno
