Thread: Parts needed for P76 into RRC

Hi Steve, since it came out of a rangie it will have the extra hole drilled/tapped in the block for the mounts which you re-use the rangie brackets.
Flywheel needs to be re-drilled to suit the 4.4 crank pattern so i would get a machine shop to do that, do you have a flexplate or something off the 4.4 to use as a guide ?

I'll check that there is an extra hole drilled, thanks for the info. I thought it was a matter of cutting and rewelding the engine mount on a slightly different angle but that makes it much easier.

Unfortunately I've got nothing like a flex plate or anything from the 4.4. Just the end of the crank with its 6 bolt holes. If I can't find an already drilled flywheel I'm happy to get one done but would probably prefer to get hold of a second flywheel so I've still got a complete 3.5 to go back in if necessary.

To use RRC engine mounts on a P76 engine you need to cut off the top bolt hole and extend it upwards a bit, as the block is taller. The boss exists on the block for the 3rd bolt, so if the hole isn't present it's trivial to drill and tap. Retapping to the Rover bolt size is a good idea too.

The flywheel will need the centre boring out to fit the P76 crank, then by careful measurement you can drill the P76 bolt holes between the Rover ones. A pattern can be made by pressing a circle of stiff paper against the P76 crank and transferring the marks. Accuracy of these bolt holes isn't critical so a judicious bit of filing won't measurably change the strength. Any competent engine shop should be able to bore the flywheel for you inside of 1/2 a hour.

Lastly, you'll need a spigot bush. Some of the home made bushes I've seen are terrible, I suggest you get a small adaptor sleeve machined to insert a genuine Rover one into the P76 crank. The P76 ran a ball bearing race instead of a spigot bush.
