    Fuel sender resistance

    Does anyone know offhand what nominal resistance of fuel tank sender unit in older (2door) is supposed to be? Is it a zero to +vet ohms or, like some, backwards, and starts with resistance and then goes to zero?

    Hmmm, not sure but I'll be pulling the tank out of my 86 tomorrow if that helps - I can check mine but not sure if it is the same as a 2 door - I would think it would be though.

    Ok, just checked the sender out of the long range tank - it is a standard unit, with a bit of extra wire soldered into the arm to make it longer - like they did with the series long range tanks.

    Resistance is 20 ohms full, 260 ohms empty.

    I'll confirm this once I get the unit out of the itty bitty factory tank.

    Just checked the sender out of the factory tank - it is the same 20 ohms full to around 270 ohms empty on that one so somewhere about there. . Checked it wired to the car and I get full deflection both ways, and all the in between is also good. Both these tanks are EFI tanks, but my 86 was the last of the carbied models (it's got a 3.9 EFI in it now) so looks like they kept the same resistance throughout the entire ru of RRC's.

    Great thanks! And, seems LR have the sender the "opposite' of what I think is considered normal, which is 0 ohms when empty, rising to a resistance when full. Appreciate the help

    Haha well said. Turns out there is a setting in the Dakota digital set up for selecting a fuel sender resistance of 33 ohms full 240 ohms empty, which from all I can read, seems to be pretty close. There is also if all else fails the ability to calibrate to full "custom" values if needed, so should be ok with this. 33/240 is also pretty common apparently. It wont be quite perfect but then it never was when fitted to 130 liter Brown Davis tank.
